Hey folks, Does anyone know why Adrian puts the two battery compartments so far from each other, rather than side by side?

Hi all,
So I was very happy with my Maruszczyk bass when it arrived and it looks and sounds stunning.
However, the action was very high and I decided to arrange for a luthier to check it over and do a full set up with new strings (I'm not yet that that proficient in such matters).
It turns out that a number of frets were uneven and not uniform, so the luthier had to level the frets for me. I have to say that I was quite disappointed, as I paid about €2000 for my Jazzus that I ordered using the configurator 18 month's ago.
It's made me think twice about placing a 2nd order - has anyone else come across this issue?

All my orders (6 total over the last couple of years) have been delivered to me set up great with low action and I have not had to adjust any of my necks. Your bass could have been subject to extreme weather maybe? I also have carbon rods in all my necks.
That's quite odd and surprising at the same time. First there's long period between your order and delivery, and then there's the uneven frets.
Personally I've never had issues with this brand whatsoeve, and I bought one from their online store and one from the custom shop. I've been able to get the action extremely low, as I like a bit of clank when I dig in, by using Marcelo Feldman's video. And there's no buzzing whatsoever, so the frets are even.
You should contact them about this.
What matters to me when choosing a bridge is whether it's easy to adjust. I opted for the Hipshot Vintage when I ordered mine, because it's a basic, straightforward design.
If the monorail bridge can be ajusted without any hassle, then it's all good.
I've been overun with work for the past 12 months and haven't had much time to focus on playing music - I'm self-employed and run my own business, so I've had to prioritise work commitments.
My bass was delivered just over a year ago and I ordered it with a 3-piece roasted hard rock maple neck with carbon rods.
My luthier did the job without telling me or charging me extra for it, as he also did a full set up for my Fender Stratocaster and Yamaha acoustic at the same time - I've only just found out about it this afternoon after picking it up.
I don't know whether contacting Adrian about it will be of any use now as it's been just over a year since I received it.
Maybe it was a one off. This was my first Maruszczyk order and I had a major problem with it after FedEx lost it and Adrian had to make me a new one - maybe Adrian's staff in Poland rushed it out to me after I had been waiting for my order for almost 7 months due to the FedEx fiasco.
I'm not sure why they are so far apart. My new Jake has the 2 battery boxes far apart also. Probably due to the pickup routes placement maybe.

Sounds like you should invest a few minutes to learn to adjust your truss rod. It would be rare that a new custom built bass (that is already set up) would need a set up, but it is not unusual for basses to need a truss Rod adjusted periodically, especially after travelling halfway around the world
As detailed, the issue required far more than truss rod adjustment

My guess is a mix of where the wires have to run from each battery, where the top routing or back routing is already running, and not wanting to rout out and diminish the integrity of wood between the neck heel and bridge. Too thin spots of wood in the wrong spot could be bad. I especially think that after seeing @TK4261 's post with his battery box placement.
I'm not sure why they are so far apart. My new Jake has the 2 battery boxes far apart also. Probably due to the pickup routes placement maybe.
Quite the opposite for me, honestly - I take all my newly purchased basses to my tech for a once over (he's going to spot problems I'd miss), and when I took my Elwood in he specifically mentioned how impressed he was with the fretwork.
I may have just gotten exceptionally lucky with my instrument, as I had to show him the invoice for it because he didn't quite believe that it cost me in the Fender Performer price range.

I have an opinion, but you might not find it helpful. I would use a Hipshot rather than a monorail or the ETS. Why? Because I really like having the intonation adjustment screw. It makes intonating both easy and precise. I really like the look of the ETS bridge, and would certainly order one... except it does not have the adjustment screw, and that makes it a non-starter for me.
Thanks for sharing. I think that mine must have slipped the quality control net due to how long I was waiting after FedEx lost the first one that was shipped out to me.
I believe your approach is the best option and I will make sure that my luthier checks over any future purchases as soon as I receive them.
ok. I actually didn't notice that. I've never owned an instrument, guitar or bass, that didn't have it so I assumed all bridges had that. I guess it's the hipshot then.
I am just a data point of one bass made at the end of 2022, but I am a data point of someone super obsessive about my action. Mine needed truss rod adjustment when I got it, a little, unsurprising it had travelled over an ocean plus I changed strings. But the fretwork was superb. I have all the tools and experience to file frets as needed but I didnt have to do anything to the Frog I got.
With just a sliver of relief, I lowered the action to a silly level, 1.25mm on the g and 1.5 on the e at the 12th. There is no fret buzz anywhere at those specs playing moderately. Going beast mode, the fret buzz is nice and even across the frets. Nothing fizzling out.
You mentioned that you had the bass for 18 months? In the beginning, it could have just needed a truss rod adjustment. After a year or you could have fret issues from temperature and humidity changes. It's pretty common and hard to say if it was a quality control issue or if it developed over time from how you were storing it?
