Well here's my long overdue NBD post. I received this beauty back in October or so. I've been playing it, experimenting with different strings, locking in the set up and forming my opinion.
She's an Elwood-L 5A. Meaning chambered body (Swamp Ash), 5 string, Active preamp. 32" scale.
Swamp Ash body with Walnut top. Ebony fingerboard with ghost lines on the side. Aguilar pickups with an OBP-3 preamp with active/passive push/pull, mid frequency select.
Build quality is great. Working with Randy at Bass Spotlight was also great.
Playability is really good too. I've been able to get the action where I like. The neck profile feels really good. Not too thin like Ibanez, not too thick either. It's just right (for me).
I'm finding it's not the bass I'm reaching for most often though and I was really hoping it would be. I can get really good sounds out of it and there's a great variety of tones on tap, but tone-wise I like my Warmoth fretless with Delano quad coils and John East pre better.
I've tried both nickel and stainless round wounds. I've settled on the added brightness of the stainless for now.
It's not quite as growly as I like. As a side note, I consider the growl of a fretless to be distinct from the mwah. For me the mwah is the bloom of the note. The way it opens up after the initial attack. The growl is the "growly, edgy" sound of the string on the fingerboard. The growl is there it's just a little more subdued than I like. This is what I've been trying to dial in with strings and set up. I think that EQ might actually be playing a role here too. When I boost the mids all the way, I'm getting closer to the sound I have in my head.
I think maybe what it's coming down to is that I'm not loving the pick up / preamp combo.
I'm pretty seriously considering putting a John East pre in and seeing what that gives me.
I also wonder about the fingerboard. Specifically, how much fall away is there at the above the 12th "fret". I had my warmoth fretless plek'd and the fall away may be a little more than it is on the Maru, allowing ever so slightly lower action. I really have no idea about the fall away thing though. I could be totally making it up.
So anyhow, that's my overdue NBD post.
In short, it's a great bass, but i haven't fallen deeply in love with it (yet!).

Putting a pre-posting opportunity out there. I am planning on listing my five-string 32-in scale joker on Monday. Wanted to give first dibs to our own fraternity here. I had this built for me about one year ago and just never could connect with a 32-in scale. Just feels a bit funny to me. Great sounding bass guitar with two nordstrand double singles. Each pickup can have single coil, parallel or series via a three-way toggle switch. Mix and blend as you wish. Also has a four band EQ with bass, treble, low mid and high mid boost and cut with center detent. Current build cost comes in around $2,700. I will sell it for $2,000. And absolutely brand new condition not a scratch or mark anywhere on it and could absolutely be sold as brand new. Comes with the nicely padded case that is the correct size for the 32-in scale. Semi-hollow body with eye poplar top swamp ash main body, birds eye maple fingerboard, sunburst finish
It's really a very balanced sound from string to string. I did put on medium scale strings instead of trying to make long scale strings work. Currently have LaBella round wound nickel for medium scale.
I second that! I’ve built one in the configurator very similar to this…beautiful bass!
Beautiful, I just wish it were a blue burst instead of the traditional burst. Good luck with the sale, that should go quickly.

Not a problem. The forum rules don't allow you to sell here, or advertise wanting to sell, without being a supporting member. But anyone can buy, and anyone can ask about buying. I can't help you with a 5-string Paddock, but you did nothing wrong here.
Sharing this shot from a recent show with my 90s band. The Audere preamp is great, so flexible.
Audere preamps are also my favorite! I have had them installed in many of my bass guitars.
