Yesterday Adrian sent me this e-mail: “Hello, I hear now that HipShot don’t make more the Vintage bridge with 17mm spacing, just 18 and 19mm. take the 18mm?”
I said “Yes, Vintage with 18mm spacing please”. Just a quick heads up!
It was over a year ago they discontinued the B Bridge in 17mm spacing. I figured the vintage was next. Thankfully they still make the A Style in 17mm
Is that for four strings or five? I can't imagine they'd stop making 5-string bridges in 17mm.
My Current Elwood has the Maru Pickups and they sound just fine to me in comparison with other Jazz pups I've played. I am almost certain that they get you where you need to be tone wise, but other pickup makers have their own flavors.
It was for the 5 string, they currently offer Fendermount, 18mm and 19mm. You can still find old stock of the 17mm here and there.
Yeah that model is not adjustable like the Type A... kind of a bummer to discontinue, I suppose they didn't sell enough of the 17mm? I can scratch that bridge off of my future purchases list
I prefer the A Style myself, just for the adjustable string spacing.
Thanks! The cool thing is that this bass is almost identical in every dimension to my Sandberg Lionel, so the only difference really is the pickups (besides the visuals). The more I get familiar with the pu’s and adjust my amp settings, the more I like the sound. This weekend will be the first time I take the Elwood (or any j-bass) out for a gig. Looking forward to it!
Dang, good to know. If I were to order a 5-string, I'd want it in 17 mm.
I asked Adrian to change, if possible, the Vintage bridge with Hipshot A 17mm. Thankfully he agreed, 50 € extra for this is fair.

So, I decided on the 14" radius. Adrian told me 12" versus 14" wasn't noticeable, except that the neck would be thinner with the 14".
I'm doing a multiscale, so he recommended the Delano SBC pickups. Is it worth it to get the 3 way switching (series, parallel, split) or will the series always sound the best and fullest? Thanks!

Hi everyone, is it only possible to buy Domanski pickups from Adrian himself? I've been looking online for information on these pickups, but I couldn't find any way to purchase them. They seem to sound pretty consistent in the various Cazpar bass videos on YT, and I absolutely love how they sound in this video:

Regarding the switches, I'm an advocate for getting them even if you think you won't use them. More tonal options is always better IMO.
I also thought this was a valuable bit of insider info... and then I realised that Adrian was just pointing out basic physics
Another in the ongoing series of subjective qualities of sound, series wiring may not sound "best" depending on musical context. As a descriptor, Brady Muckelroy calls series the "own the room" sound. Regarding the Delano SBCs, you'll hear the differences. I opted for the switch for just the bridge pickup on a bass (passive), and that gives enough variation for me.
I love having the switch. I often switch between split and series on my bridge pickup depending on the room/song, but rarely use parallel.
I use the switch all the time. Series when bringing the beef, parallel when playing more delicate arrangements or sitting back in the mix. I don’t use single/split that often.
I don't know if Adrian will do this from the factory but I found that North Coil/Series/South Coil wiring a much better fit for my needs.
