I recieved a quote from them last year on a Plek job for a 5 string bass, It was very reasonable even with shipping. I decided to sell the bass instead, but it was for other reasons that I didn't pursue it.

Wow, thank's for all of the narrative. I really love this Cazpar bass. It's light, looks beautiful, and has great tone. I bought it second hand for 1k, and since it's left handed short scale, it's one of those that I would not have found anywhere. It is playable: although the strings sit higher than they should. I think it's worth improving with the right service. I was thinking of a complete neck replace but this sounds like a better option. I hope it can be done once it's assessed. Final question. Has the Plek job held? It sounds like it would have since it was only the frets and not the neck's wood integrity that was changed. Thanks again.

Why is the action high?
I don’t recall, if you posted this already… Why is the action high and why do you need to replace the neck?
Maybe have a good Luthier take a look at it?

Well the short/long of it is that when the action is adjusted to optimal height, it results in a lot of string buzz on the G string, pretty much all the way down the neck. When I returned it to have the buzz removed, the best solution he could find was to increase relief and raise the strings: which does seem pretty standard to me. However, the result is that their is a big gap by the 10th fret (over 3mm). He is an older tech who knows his stuff, but maybe, I say maybe, with it being a left handed instrument and Mensinger (with the truss rod screw going the opposite direction) it threw him off a little? Still, the process of adjustment seemed right to me in that he 1. Adjusted the neck relief and bridge to optimal string heights and then adjusted all three to get rid of the buzz. So the bass plays and has no buzz, Yay. However, the excessive string height is something I would like to have fixed. That's why I'm thinking of a next step solution. Plek job or something else. BTW, Sweetwater will do the PLEK job and I can bring it to their Fort Wayne store.

My first PLEK job was done on my Warmoth 3-pickup jazz that Mike Lull assembled and set up for me. The first time I ever held it, it was perfect. I could literally play faster on it than I could before, because so much less energy was being spent fighting the instrument as I was playing it. (Not that I had played that bass before, but comparing playing it with any other bass I had played.) That was close to ten years ago. Now, I can see where the frets have worn from use, and it's a little bit tempting to take it in for another PLEK, but it doesn't need it. The wear is pretty universally even, so it's not like there are any problem spots on it. In that regard, the PLEK job has held, to use your word. Plus, the fret wear gives it some character IMO. It's a bubinga neck with a wenge fretboard, so the wood is about as stable as it could be.

(I'm 64 - playing for 52 years). I'll likely restart the process with decisions really focused on weight reduction - so that I can truly join the club. Alas - this one needs a home.

Adrian shipped the bass directly to Randy who has been kind enough to sell it in his store. It's 100% new - as I didn't take possession - so here's a chance for someone to grab a really tricked out Maruszczyk without the 20 week wait. And to top it off - it's a gorgeous transparent purple - with matching headstock.

It has the Haussell Thunderbird pick-ups (with frames), Noll 3-band preamp with sweepable mids. There are three concentric controls: Vol / Blend, Mid Freq / Mid control, and Treble / Bass control. It's a chambered alder body with an upgraded quilted ash top, upgraded Hipshot A bridge (19mm spacing), upgraded Hipshot Ultralight tuners, and an Ultralight bass extender on the E string. Flame maple neck (check the pic!) with an ebony fretboard, Vintage blue Luminlay dots on the fretboard and 3mm blue luminlay dots on the edge of the fretboard.

You can see more pics from Randy's Bass Spotlight FB page, etc. I really hope somebody gives this bad boy a great new home. That would take some of the sting out of things for me....

That's a beautiful bass, hope someone here snags it. I have a few from Randy/Adrian and my top priority has always been light weight, but I've also gone with the Elwood L body (not sure how much an equivalent-scale chambered Jake adds) on both 34 and 32 scale with matte finishes.

His intro text says it's a "5L" - but that's a typo. It's a 4-string for sure.

Hey folks. I'm attempting to thin my Maruszczyk/Mensinger herd (from six to five :thumbsup:.) I had a listing in the states a couple of years ago before I re-strung this bass to E-C. Now that I'm in France, I've re-created the listing in the international section, but I'll still entertain shipping outside the country/continent. If it's ok I thought I'd share the link just to get some eyes on it.

Very nice, that one :)

Also, you may want to update your listing's mention of a "3-month wait". From what I've seen on here and other forums - as well as my own personal experience - that's not as reflective of the norm as it once was. 5-6 months seems more typical these days. All the more reason for someone to buy your Elwood! :)
