Huh, the Lowes in my town doesn't have bass necks...yes, I used a Lowes medium scale conversion neck and a Squier body. It sounds great and I love it.

Regarding Gypsy Rose basses (which I understand to be 32" scale) :
Please could anyone confirm the nut width of these ?
I have a line on one for $100 Canadian, in purple sparkle, including the original soft case and strap.
Seems like a good deal [have seen pics of the actual instrument], but if the nut is 1.5", I will most likely pass.
P-width or more is what I am hoping it would be.

Thanks for the feedback - the "pickguard" in the picture is actually paper. Experimenting with the shape. Might have pickguards.com (formally WD) fashion one in black/white/black. Jury's still out.
Very wise to do the paper mock-up first. Gives a good idea what it may actually look like.
Warmoth has pdf templates of pickguards for their body shapes. I started with the short/medium scale "J" body shape pickguard template and went from there.Very wise to do the paper mock-up first. Gives a good idea what it may actually look like.

Sounds like it's working well for you. I'm afraid if I started doing that I'd end up with reams of paper pickguards and never actually order one!
