I last posted here in 2010, so an update is in order. Back then I had 2
32" basses, both Alembics. The Distillate is gone but my '00 MK Sig Std remains.
Two weeks ago I finally got another 32" - an '86 Yamaha Motion B B-II.
I am having a blast playing it and it sounds great!! Excellent basses!

My latest build....Warmoth dinky J body and Brad Lowe conversion neck. The reduced body size looks and feels more proportional with the 32" scale neck. My luthier friend finished the headstock for me a while back. The fretboard has a beautiful birdseye pattern and the entire neck is finished in clear gloss. Other goodies include Grover tuners, Hipshot A bridge, VT/VT controls with Hipshot knobs, and Dimarzio Area J pickups. I own another BTL neck on a Fender US Jazz body with P/J pickups, and it's been a great player. These necks are truly amazing.

Dang it, you're firing up my GAS again...I like natural roasted Ash also but this body was an in stock item and the body was only 3lb 2oz so I snagged it
I like the 32" necks a lot. 1.5" nut and kinda c shaped neck so not to thin and I ended up going with 6230 (vintage sized frets)
I find myself wondering, is a Dinky J body smaller than a Short Scale J body?
Anyone?

Good eye! I didn't see the Dinky outline when I was on Warwick before. I'd actually prefer if I could get a Jazz body even a tiny bit smaller than their SS body. A dinky J body is a perfect match for one of my conversion necks.
I feel compelled to point out that I haven't offered a headstock in that shape or one that can be modified to that shape for years.

I've had that neck and another like it for a few years. I bought that one direct from you, and the other from the classifieds here. I totally understand why you don't make them anymore, and I do like the bespoke shape you've always offered.
Are medium scale club #s still being handed out? My Chowny SWB-1 is 30.75" so I call it short, the Chowny CHB-1 semi-hollow body is 31" so I guess it's a fit

Actually, no. With the set-up I have it hangs horizontally. That's due, in part, to the strap I'm using as the bare leather provides a little "anti-slip". The CHB-1 dives a little more.
Nice! How's the SWB-1? I've always like the idea of the pups slanted to balance the strings a bit. Where are the side dots, standard position or at the fret?

I played the SWB-1 at NAMM a couple of years ago and was impressed by it. Cool little bass.
The SWB-1 came fretted and I ended up talking with Stephen Chown a year later about the cost of getting the frettless neck. Turns out he had one in stock, the price was good, and he happened to have a CHB-1 b-stock so I got that as I knew it would take my luthier a few weeks to swap necks and put on the tape-wounds.
All of that to say... I took a few photos at the time, this one shows the dots on both necks. Not perfectly aligned but close enough to show they are just in front of the frets.
I love playing them both. Completely different instruments. Blue Note is my blues and rock go-to while Les Brown gets picked up when I'm playing faster or softer. The narrow (& fretless) neck is really nice & the tape-wounds give a great tone.

Sapphire blue burst CHB-1 club!
Mine's two years on and is my daily player.
I find the neck as comfortable as I've ever played, and can report the La Bella LTF-4A-M feel the perfect fit. Pic is an earlier iteration with D'Addario tapes. Traded out the stock tuning machines for Gotoh Res-o-Lites (they're not a direct fit).

. Does she / he / them have a name? You get #1 in the CHB-1 Sapphire Blue Burst club, I'll take #2.I've been thinking about putting flat wounds on Blue Note but am still enjoying the original strings.
