As far as wide as your sister:D, I can't say for sure I agree with the analogy, but I think I understand what you're saying. I get a lot of comments from sound guys about the tonal spectrum. I would like to hear a little better sound from my amp, but that's the amp, which is something I plan on rectifying very soon:cool:.

i wanted to record with it in my metal band, but the bass part is more of a supporting role, so when i tracked with it, no matter how it was tweaked, my bass _was_ the mix, vice being a part of it...i ended up using my ash/padauk lefay for much of, then a spector and a couple of warwicks

I must gloat and say that I am the proud owner of a J5 and a 535, and Vic and Neptoon are both correct, the tonal spectrum of the 535 is quite wide and the J5 hits like a hammer. So don't take any Rolaids for the GAS, just add a 535 to your collection and you will be set. I have used the J5 on some Rock and Pop gigs and it sat nicely in the mix, I was not as pleased with how it sat in the mix on a Smooth Jazz gig, but that's where the 535 really shines. I also use the 535on all of my contemporary gospel gigs. If you can only afford one, get the 535. To answer a question posted above, I use MTD and D'adarrio strings. The MTD's IMO are brighter.

LOL!!! I TOLD you not to sell it! ...and if I didn't, I should have... ;)

Man, I'm diggin' that 635 the most myself... at least visually. :) I think the Rodmans are cool, but I'd be worried longer term about falling out of love with the look, and I think those might be harder to resell/trade due to their specific appeal.

These aren't exactly the best pictures since my friend took these for me at his house pretty late last night while we were studying, and that was the best we could do as far as lighting. I really don't think any of these pictures really show off how good the Claro Walnut top looks.

And just for kicks. I was fooling around doing the "Got a little captain in you? - Captain Morgan" pose, and I had no idea he took actually took a picture while I was doing this. [And by the way, I had almost NO weight on my right foot for those of you who might think of this as MTD abuse :rolleyes:]

Awesome bass, Paul... that is definitely one of Mike's current fave wood combos by a pretty large margin, and let me tell you from personal experience, I agree with his enthusiasm about it. :)

Thanks Vic! I think I can see why Mike might like this wood combo. My friend said [maybe out of jealousy :p since I didn't tell him I got this bass until 4 or 5 days after; and he was kinda mad haha] that it was a bit too aggressive/sizzly for his taste but I just love it! It probably has something to do with his attack since he does play a lot harder than I do, so for me it's just perfect.

And YOU sir, are lucky enough that you have 4 MTDs yourself and one with the combo that I have too :).

Oh and by the way, are there any differences in tone from Maple to Bird's Eye Maple? The one I tried at the Bass Exchange was Ash/Figured Walnut + Ash/Bird's Eye Maple but am not sure whether there is any difference from that one to my bass [I would probably need to take my bass in and play them one of after the other to know for sure]

Don't be afraid to use that EQ. In particular, dropping the treble control beyond a certain point can alter the tone in ways you might not expect and might impress you and him. :)

And YOU sir, are lucky enough that you have 4 MTDs yourself and one with the combo that I have too :).

And you know what's funny? So I said in my post up there that I took those pics. at a friends house while we were taking a break from studying. I left the bass with 2 of my other friends, who came to have a mini bass gtg while me and 2 other friends were studying [there were 5 of use total], because they wanted to play the MTD. They stopped jamming and came to where we were studying in the house and were just chilling, and at some point I just moseyed myself over to where we left all the bass gear to just "check up" on my MTD to see if they put everything back nicely... to find my friends LTD Wick in my case and my MTD in his gig bag :rolleyes:. At that point I switched things back to normal, closed the case, and brought my case to where I was studying so I could keep an eye out on it lol.

Yes for sure! I liked the bass with slight boost in bass/treble and a bit more at 250hz and it was totally kickin it for me, but for him that was a bit too much and he actually did end up cutting treble some while playing but said he'd probably want a Maple/Rosewood MTD instead of an Ash/Maple if he ever got around to being able to purchase one.

And one of the few reasons why I want to be done with college is so my disposable income will, hopefully, increase drastically so I could afford to buy/try many many MTDs and other basses I might like :D

Ooh alright, yea Justin at the Bass Exchange mentioned that to me too, that to him there weren't any noticeable differences. I asked because, in my mind, I'm thinking that there should be maybe a slight difference since B.E.M is supposed to be "more unstable?/softer?" than normal Maple?
