Thanks guys! Can't see those pics til I get home though, blocked at work. Found a few other Rodman finishes, that looks like the way to go! They all seem to vary a bit on the amount of centre colour, I generally prefer more of it, with less constrasting colour around the edges. But maybe that's really just a sunburst finish?

Listened to a bunch of MTD recordings last night and thought I'd play around with EQ to try and make my ash/ash bass sound a touch more like a wenge one, or at least "close" the sound down a bit. I found that 2.5KHz was a good frequency to cut, it really reduces string noise and brings out the lows and highs. In fact, I'd probably be happier if the treble knob (at least the cut) worked at that frequency, the current setting doesn't seem all that useful to me, for cutting.

I've never played a Wenge/Wenge MTD before but, have heard plenty of recordings of them so I'll see if that works for me too through my TFunk on my Ash/Ash.

I'm assuming you left the Mid centered on the bass and just cut 2.5KHz on your amp?

Man, I can barely see the screen after looking at that Rodman finish MTD!!! :p

Yes, leaving the bass EQ totally flat and cutting around 2.5Khz on the TF really sounds cool without losing the top-end zing, plus it makes the low end more prominent. I'm running my TF through a pair of Acme Low B-2 cabs, in case you were wondering. :)

It's really quite smooth in real life. :) It was sunny as all get out yesterday, but yeah. It's a head turner, to say the least!

I'm definitely drinking the MTD kool-aid from now on... I got up at 3AM to play this thing. It's sick.

The Bartolini pre-amp system Mr. T uses is extremely flexible; you can change the centre frequency and Q of any of the EQ by adding/subtracting certain resistors right on the pot itself. Get in touch with Mr. T and he'll probably send you some info on that - it might mean getting in touch with Bartolini as well, but I'm sure Mr. Tobias has most of that info tucked into that world-class brain of his.

Or, as suggested, just do it on the amp.

Bass came with standard SS strings. ( The yellow wrap)

Is it me, do these string die fast?
After about 5 hours of playing, the seem dead.

I normally use nickel strings.

I've used tons of MTD strings, and at least for me, they are some of the longest lasting SS strings I've used (including DR). Also, no matter what, they should definitely last a lot longer than nickel.

I wonder if maybe the previous owner played enough to require they be boiled/soaked and maybe he did that as a favor to you as the buyer and you're on the "second life" on them and just don't know it?

Otherwise, your comments are completely backwards from what I've experienced. Not sure if it helps, but at least I can say the MTD SS strings SHOULD last a lot longer than nickel anyway

good lord Rob, you're a better man than I, although the strings (MTD stainless) do last nice and long for me too, if I go more than a month and a bit without changing strings I start tweakin' and buggin' out :eyebrow:

you need to come in more often and buy more strings :bassist:

if you didn't pick your nose so much, scratch your ***, and wash your hands once in a while, they'd last a little longer. All those boogers just wreak havoc on the windings.

MTD's last as well as the DR's I used for about 15 years. Wash your hands before you play, and wipe your strings off when you're finished.

it's crazy how different people kill strings faster that others.

I go no more that 2 months max on MTD SS strings. But I have pretty dry hands. So I think they last pretty long. As long as if not longer than other brands I've tried.

Well ah you have to consider that the Moon is also not getting the love it once did...now that the KL is here.

Maybe you need more basses....you dont have to change strings as much then. :hiding:
