Yeah, if you like low action and a narrow neck then that is your bass. I always like the Saratoga/Beast MTD's, the jazz pups gave it a great sound.

+1 I had a Grendel 5 (Beast with active American Bartolini preamp) that had those pickups. I decided to install Nordstrand DC's in their place. The stock single coils actually sounded better. The Czeck made Grendels/Beasts were fantastic basses and I would assume the Korean Saratogas are also. OK, back to "USA" MTD's!

Hey Maconbass-thanks man,I really apprecialte it. Does it sound like a J-Bass or do those barts and that mid switch give it a whole different sound( I would think it would)...Peace...DAcat...:cool:

Are you referring to the PUPs that would already be on this MTD Beast bass that I'm considering "The stock single coils actually sounded better."..Again-what did they sound like compared to your typical passive J-Bass. Thanks again...Peace...DAcat :cool:

DAcat, yes I was referring to the exposed pole Bartolini's. They are the same pups that are in that Beast you posted a photo of. I regretted replacing them and was disappointed with the soapbars that I replaced them with. Unfortunately, it was too late to switch back because of the routing the new ones required.

The Beast doesn't have the mid switch like the Grendel's/Saratoga's. They had passive electronics. It sounds like a great jazz bass with single coils.

Since I have'nt played a Beast or a Saratoga-is the Saratoga's playabilty similar to the Beast, and how does the Saratoga's tone compare to lets say a Jazz Bass? Peace...DAcat :cool:

I just joined the MTD club and I must say this bass is AMAZING!!!! The versatility is blowing me away. I used it on two gigs so far and will be using it tomorrow morning at church!!!!!

the photos lack the brilliance of the contrasting woods...very difficult to get nice light on this specimen. buckeye burl top, birdseye maple neck, 24 fret. only have it a few days so the jury is still out on what i like about it or not? to state the obvious it is light years different than the sr5 i have been playing for the last 10 years.
