I'm personally not a fan of nitro. Mainly because for the same reason it's so easy to repair, it's also so incredibly easy to damage. Also, Mike's standard "satin" finish is SPECIFICALLY developed to provide all the protections of poly while at the same time, affecting the tone of the wood VERY little... in fact, I'd venture to say even less than nitro.

So I enquired with Mike about the 634. He said he's made templates for a 634-24 with 17mm spacing so there is no upcharge 
Do the regular 635's have 18mm spacing? I'm wondering if 17mm would be just a touch too narrow...

According to Mike's website the 635 has 18mm spacing. It's your preference, but I tend to think that 17mm is a bit too narrow.

I've always wondered about this. Just keep in mind you have to mentally add the elex and battery cavities as well as the pickup routes.
A couple things I picked up from the videos:
1) Mike paid about $200 for each top mentioned in video

Thanks man. Really appreciate that! Man.......... this thing is SO awesome.... Plays like butter, and even a tad easier to navigate than my fretted 535. Not sure if it's the 24-versus-21-fret difference, or if it's just wishful thinking, or whatever, but geeze........... this thing just "falls into your hands and begs to be played". One thing that seemed odd to me was that Mike strung it with roundwounds. I was "taught" that that was a no-no on a fretless. Apparently not, in this case. Mike said "The board should be fine with those strings as long as you dont try to bend half dollars with your left hand ;>)."
Tell ya what.... this thing has such awesome tone that I'm not sure I'd wanna put flats on it anyway!
Oh man!!! I think I just contracted fretless MTD GAS!!!! Roundwounds on f-less sound killer and they really don't "eat" your f-board away at all, I've been using Daddario XL's on all of my fretless basses, right now my f-less of choice is an Elrick with a Pink Ivory f-board, and the f-board is near perfect after years of playing on it with rounds...and I prefer the sound of rounds on fretless too!! Congrats!!!

So... I played the Rodman again yesterday AM at church, and just went straight into my BBE Bmax pre, not through my pedalboard, and man- you just cannot get a better sounding bass than this.
Flat, plain, simply, there is no equal to this instrument on planet Earth. I'm 100% converted. How you can GAS for something other than an MTD is beyond me. Or if it exists, it's gotta be one of 2-3 instruments I've never played.

I played my trusty older "red" MTD as well as my newer "red" MTD (the one that also has the figured back, but also an ash neck) on the gig this past weekend. It was outdoors, through my Eden 405 and a pair of the new Berg AE210 cabs. To say I was pleased with my tone would be like saying the Hoover dam can power a couple light bulbs.So...
