I'm guessing the H4. That's the same one I have. It is a great unit. The H2 is only 2 tracks.

THe 4 track I picked up is actually a Zoom Palm Studio PS-04. Will see how that goes. Anyway update on the MTDs, for those that care. I initially reported my newer ash body, walnut top, maple/maple combo sounded more scooped in the mids then my other ash body, spalt top, rosewood board, maple neck combo, but I think I was wrong.
I will really need a second set of ears (Vic-you listening)on this but I think what I am hearing is the newer bass with the walnut top has a real nice low mid push and it is enough bump to make the high mids sound scooped if you will. The older MTD sounds more even throughout, so that is why I first said it seemed the newer sounded more scooped. Anyway I am not quite comparing apples to apples as the older one has MTD strings and the newer one has DR lowriders and the action is a bit higher. After putting them thru side by side test today I am now preferring the walnut top. It is less organic, slightly less aggressive, has more of the piano type clarity and excels when diggin in fingerstyle. The spalt top is warm and aggressive. What is weird is the neck on the spalt top is noticeably smaller and more comfortable. It definitely feels smaller than the newer one in the first position. I am not sure if it is just flatter or slightly narrower. The next owner can decide because it will probably be up soon to fund a custom project. Taking numbers after Vic

This sounds about right, except while I definitely heard the low mid push, at least in my case, it wasn't enough to make it sound scooped up top.

Well, IMHO, before you make a final decision, you should give things more time. These are complex animals. Make sure you gig with both.
Regardless, as soon as I get a certain part in, we gotta' do another bass day and compare notes.

Does anyone have a problem with overtones on their low B? It's not that big of an issue right now (I am playing reggae so there is no highs), but I seem to hear alot of high pitched overtones in with the B.
For instance, when doing a kind of pentatonic scale and rolling on onto the B there are overtones (string noise) that kind of mask the fundamental notes.
Any help/ideas on this would be great.

Even in the first position, or just up higher? Maybe try changing strings, changing gauges, like maybe try a 125 for the B, cutting the treble a little, maybe boosting the low mids a touch.
What Vic said, plus maybe try a bit of cut at 2.5KHz. I find that to remove a bit of the openness from the ash/ash combo, at the cost of a little clarity in the mix.

I know it's not exactly MTD USA, but since the board's slow I thought I'd pose a quick question.
Has anybody tried the MTD Nickel strings? I'm thinking about ordering a few sets for my 435.
Oh, and for comparison, my string of choice as of now is D'Addario XL's.

I have nickels on my 535, and like them alot. They are bright, but not as bright as steels. They last a quite a bit longer than my D'Darrio's XL's. Not too stiff, very punchy and growly.

I've got MTD 535 #572. It's an all tulip wood body, wenge neck. I really love it however always liked my basses with a nitro gloss coat. I just don't know why this is, but mostly I feel it helps preserve the life of the bass, and easier to maintain dings of the finish, and the look.. Nitro is probably the only gloss coating of it's kind/hardness that will sound ok. But I don't know...
