Ooh I SEE, did the deal take place in secret in an alleyway? I'm sure I would've seen it if it was in the FS threads, unLESS it sold in like 5 minutes or something and I never saw haha.

Hm... soo since you're getting this one... are you going to think about selling the Marylin to me to compensate for the new one coming :hiding:?

It really was a special arrangement. At the core was a discovery of a guy who had the 6 string sister to my original one, wanting the 5 string version, and some other factors. For me, it simply meant a switch to a bass with a top that has figuring I like even better, and a modest delay while it's built. All good all around. :)

It was an incredible bass, but this one will be as well. :)

Hm... soo since you're getting this one... are you going to think about selling the Marylin to me to compensate for the new one coming :hiding:?

First off, I like the second walnut top wayyyyyyy better than your first Vic (not that the first one was shabby).


Update on the 535-24 that I got. It is a few years old now. THe serial number is 10##. The last two escape me now. Anyway it sounds great. I really wanted it to sound as good as the "old" one (as it has no been referred to), but to my ears it is not quite as special. Does it sound like an MTD? Yip. So it is still special, but it doesn't make me smile ear to ear like my other one. It is less organic or woody sounding then my other one. It sounds more mid scooped naturally then the other, which one might think it is a better slapper but on the contrary to me.

This one excels in fingerstyle and can get aggressive. I really like the tones from the bridge pickup soloed on this bass. It is a great bass overall, but I think I prefer the warm aggression of the 535-21 better. I wish the tops were switched though, because I really like the walnut top better then the spalt top. And come someone tell me how to use those three extra fret thingies.

Yours is also closely spec'd to the used 635-24 at the low end. Man a c-string and extra fret thingies. I am lost just thinking about it. Im more of a g-string guy :hiding:. Not wearing 'em you know, that would just be:eek:. For those that know me, sorry for the bad visual image. Delete..Delete..Delete.:scowl:

Below are a few "in-progress" photos. The redwood burl top was made from a log that was originally sold to Audi to make dashboards for their A8 models. Man I can't wait to play this thing..... :D :D

That is the problem with MTDs. One just isn't enough. Nor are two, or six, for that matter. :D Back when I had seven, I had every day of the week covered. But then I went and sold one, and I've been all jittery ever since. :( So, new number seven is in the works. :D

It's sad that you're so right.

With all of the options available on these, you get one, immediately fall in love with it for it's own reasons, and already start daydreaming about how awesome your next one will be, and you'll love it JUST as much because of how awesome THAT one is!

I thought I'd found "my" home when I picked up a Q5, now there's no contest...
