The Official MTD USA Thread

Interestingly, at least on MTDs and Skjolds, the 35" scale doesn't bug me, even though I'm not a large person, but I can definitely see your point. Lots of folks feel the same. On the 534, I would think that would be something Mike could definitely do. It might possibly cost a little more if he has to do more hand work due to a lack of some template(s), but he could tell you that for sure. I know he's done 434s before, just don't know if he's done a 534 before.

I have heard he could do it but I think I have reached my bass quota this year with 4 new ones..hehe..

Gonna be out checking out the 535s that are coming in to Act 1 music here..give it another go...I am sure the 35" depends a bit on how the bass sits as well..

have you tried Neotech straps?
Yep, and I use them, too, but for me, the weight issue is not shoulder fatigue... it's just the weight, so better straps don't really help much.

And ****, now I'm having to rethink the whole wenge on wenge issue...dang you, Vic!
HAH! You get the first hash mark on the neck on this bass... ;)

Vic,

I really do think that is one of the most aesthetically pleasing basses I have seen. I mean ever aspect is way cool. We all know the top is just rockin' it, but I love the back of the neck..like someone just dropped a pebble in an ash pond right about the 12th fret. I can't wait to gig it this Sunday when you are in Branson. That's alright, I give a full report to the thread while you are gone:D.
LOL! You know, if it wasn't so darned new, I'd let you! :) I might just have to bring this one with me just so I can play it some more... even if just in the Cafe Walter. :)

WOW, Vic!

It must be a great bass! You changed your avatar!
Dude, you have NO idea... I keep trying to find a weak point... every bass has to have something it's not quite the pinnacle... still looking...

The fret level is perfect, the neck profile is EXACTLY the flavor of his profile I wanted, the belly cut depth and shape, the colors of the woods, the birdseye, the top figure, the world logo, the ash patterns, the weight, the "alive" feeling it has (oh my gosh yes it has!!!), the B string is KILLER... this bass is going to get played A LOT!

What's killin' me most right now is I don't have a gig for over a week to see what it's like in a mix, but I have some STRONG predictions based on how it compares to my others. This thing is like a punchier version of my uber-aggressive red bass... exactly the tone I was looking for from the beginning.

I'm telling you, Mike OD'd on the wizard dust when he made this sucker! :D

Me! I'm waiting on a Marilyn 635:

Mahogany body
Maple neck
Ebony board
Redwood Burl Top (Avatar)
Barts + piezo

Can't wait! BTW, that's a beautiful top on your new 535 Vic!
Woah! Can't believe I forgot to comment on this one! That sounds AMAZING! Got any early pics at all?

Edit: Oh wait, I think I've seen some... this is one of those basses with the Audi wood, right, and it's even in those MTD videos, right? Man, you got a SERIOUSLY cool MTD on the way!!!!!

Thanks Vic, it does sound like the pot itself, the wiring looked fine and secure and the pot behaves strangely when tweaked around a bit and put under some tension. I might have a go at it myself, but it would be a shame as it hasn't been touched since construction and my soldering isn't the neatest in the world. :)
Hey guys, it did end up being a dry-solder joint, not the pot, I just had to heat up the solder on all 3 lugs to "re-do" the connections. Petebass on TB actually pointed out that because the cut side of the pot was still working, it was probably just one lug that wasn't connected properly, not the pot itself. Maybe one to remember.

Cheers,

EG
