The owl: If I were going for aggressive fingerstyle with big bottom my combo would be ash body, walnut top or possibly maple, and maple neck and board. This will give you a aggressive (if you play over the bridge pickup) fingerstyle with a huge bottom and clarity. If the maple/maple is has to much highs then roll the treble tone control back slightly and......sweet. My prefs would be to stay away from the wenge/wenge as well unless your were looking for that somewhat natural scoop sound. Killer for slap, but I have to aggree with Vic, that a least for me, lack a bit in the fingerstyle department (I still like to own one..or two). The ash neck IMO my have a bit more clarity and aggression then the maple neck. I am not sure it is my favorite combo yet but it is very cool. In the end, everyone has their own preference.
I also used to be a wick head and loved the wick growl (I think I have owned 7) but I have tried them after I have owned a MTD and find that they don't match the tonal goals that I want.
