The Official MTD USA Thread

Actually, I'm down to one Zon now, and as much as I'm generally moving away from the 17mm spacing that one still speaks to me a lot... plus, it holds extra meaning to me because it was part of a special deal I had with Adrian Garcia. Every time I play that bass I think of him. :) That said, you know, it's not inconceivable I'd go through a gear thinning at some point that might raise some eyebrows, but at this time, at least those two are safe. :)

darn...you know, one of the basses i regret selling most was an mtd 535 that i bought from adrian...that was a sweet bass

You bought his 535??? Woah! He never stopped saying how great that one was, and we all know his taste for tone! :)

well, i bought one of the couple of them that he had...it was serial #28, korina body, wenge neck with a gloss lacquer seafoam green finish...that bass had the mojo, man...had to sell to get the family out of a temporary apartment into a house on my last military transfer...you have no idea the suck factor of that sale, and it still aggravates me to this day :hmm: here it is with my lefay and spectors, which were also unfortunate victims of my wife's demand for something or another :bawl:

i never thought pictures did it any justice...that was the most commented upon bass i've ever owned, only once or twice on tone (though i thought it had some serious mojo in the tone department) and about a zillion times on the color...everyone that saw it loved it...talkbass is the only placed i've ever heard a sniffle at the thought of a seafoam green mtd

Ahh, ok, no, that's not the bass I was talking about... I was talking about a 535 that Adrian gigged with as his main instrument before he got into F basses. I do remember that one, tho... not my thing, but I'm sure it was a great bass. :)

Well, I've never really gotten into the MTD sound or anything, but I just heard Andrew Gouche play a solo in a Chaka Khan performance on TV and WOW that thing sounds amazing. He did it on a 6 string neck through model... So sexy.

I saw it!

Thank God for DVR!

I watched it, my wife watched it with me.

When it was over she said, "play it again!".

So we watched it again.

Drew is off the charts (as usual)...

Hey, sad to hear! I am the happy new owner of that bass. I tried to buy this bass several times but every time someone grabbed it just before me. Now it's safely in my studio and I am very happy with this bass. It really has some kind of mojo. It sounds great and feels great. And I like it's Seafoam Green color (normally I don't but it suits perfectly the 535)

By the way, you're welcome to Tallinn, Estonia whenever you'll have time. You'll always have a possibility to play that bass, well, in my studio of course. :smug:

hey, margus, thanks for chiming in! you bought it from the guy that bought it from me...he had it for like a week before deciding that he wasn't a '5 string guy.' gee, i woulda thought that that mtd would be the bass to convert anyone who was curious...i'm glad it's being taken care of by a top notch guy...i couldn't have wished it would land in a better place ;)
