The Official MTD USA Thread

hey, margus, thanks for chiming in! you bought it from the guy that bought it from me...he had it for like a week before deciding that he wasn't a '5 string guy.' gee, i woulda thought that that mtd would be the bass to convert anyone who was curious...i'm glad it's being taken care of by a top notch guy...i couldn't have wished it would land in a better place ;)

Thanks for your kind words! I am not such a good player but I really take care of my basses - especially for the Seafoam Green one! :) You know, they are like beloved women or your own children.

Here it is...

Well, well, well... There were times when ancient Estonians robbed Swedish people and then Swedes attacked back again. Do you remember these times? Some 800-900 or 1000 years ago. I guess it's time to dig out our war axes once again and start a new fight?! :)
Because without fighting I'll never give up that MTD!!! :bassist:

Hm, I claim to be a history buff, but I don't remember that at all. Care to explain? :) I'd love to hear about it.

It was during the viking era. Estonians from Saaremaa took several trips to Sweden, burned down a bunch of villages, robbed everything they could and left as soon as they got everything they wanted. They had small but fast ships. Then Swedes (who had already their own kingdom) made several attacks to Estonia and finally conquered the western part of Estonia. Hm, you must remember it. :)
But we still kept that MTD!!!

Ah, gotcha, makes sense during Viking times. My U.S. history is better than my world history, but I try. :)

Here's an interesting question...

Let's say I have an MTD 535 and another dude has an MTD 635. We have the exact same wood configurations. Should there be any obvious tonal differences? Oh, and one is made in '97, the other in '03.

They are both custom, hand-made instruments. Each will have its own personality, though they should sound more alike than would two 535's made of very different wood combinations.

Perfect way to put it.

Maybe put another way, if you're looking for a general tonal character, you should be safe. If you're looking for precisely the same sound, there's no guarantee.

I should also say I'm assuming exactly the same preamp. By far, most MTDs are the same in this respect, but Mike did do some experimentation with Bill over the years, so noting the age diff, that has to be considered.

Thanks guys.

The thing is, I'm looking at a trade from a 535 to a 635. A guy contacted me with a proposal... We're currently deciding on a 'when and where' to meet and try out the basses.

We shall see how things turn out... Of course, I'll give it a quick flash if anything goes down. :)

I would love to hear about that, and that's a great way to work out a high end trade like this!

I'll keep you posted.

Tomorrow I'll post some pictures of my current 535 and the *maybe* future 635. I haven't actually seen the 635, yet... We shall see.

His wood configurations are slightly different from what I have, but that's also why we're going to test it. Maybe I'll like the 635 more - who knows!? :smug:

I think it'll be fun, though...

Peace.
