The Official MTD USA Thread

Hi Cameron,
We're on the MTD thread but...
I own a F BN5 and a MTD 535. I love them both.
Could you tell me when you have played these Fs? What was the production era?
On my 2006 BN5, I have NO problems of noise but I'd like to purchase another F so...

one I see every week for an hour or more. Both are VERY noisy when soloed. I don't know if he had a bad batch of pickups/preamp, if both of these have been broken somehow (1 was bought used, the other brand new right from F Bass, and both owners are VERY careful people, so I doubt it). They were both made within the last 4 years.

Devastatingly gorgeous instruments in every respect but that. Both owners faces drop when I plug in the MTD and show them what a quiet preamp really is. It is SUCH a shame. I hear Alain switches out his pickups on the F Bass - wonder why...

Cheers
Cameron

When I got my ABG, I was a beginning upright player and a bit leary of playing my Kay out in public. Now, if I need to go acoustic, my 1880's upright gets the playing time. I actually have just gotten back into playing my electrics and had forgotten how much I loved playing the MTD's. The sweetest electrics I've ever played.

Hi,
I tried a Glock Heart rock in a Quattro + Duo, then Quattro + Uno deluxe with my 535 Tulipwood body Wenge/wenge neck.
Sound was very accurate, warm with a nice low end with the 4x10 + 1x15, my favorite combo.
Great lightweight gear anyway.
But sounds too hifi, not enough fat, for my ears so I kept my Mesa 400+ & my Mesa 4x10.
Personnal taste only, so you have to try this!

George,
Thats what I suspected, I heard a sound clip of this setup. It wasn't a harsh sound, just really hifi. Wanted someone else's thoughts and experience with the MTD/Glock setup. Is the Glock Heart Soul any less hifi sounding?

From what I undersatnd the Epifani rig is a great sounding amp/cabinet setup also.

Here are some pics of the MTD booth at NAMM. The basses were amazing, the players there were incredible and Mike is a great guy.

he was making <ABGs>. Tried a couple at NAMM 97 - very very nice, of course.

Cheers,

I spoke to him about the acoustics... he's made about 10 total, and has one currently "in progress" that's been that way for a long time because it kills his productivity to switch gears to work on them. With the work load of his electrics, I seriously doubt he'd take another order for one, and if he did, he'd probably quote you a 2 year lead time or something.

Bottom line, these are, and will continue to be VERY rare instruments.
