The Official MTD USA Thread

I really dig the ramp and the top/finish on this one.

And this one is a pure killer!

You own the most stunning MTD's ever made.
Wow! Thanks! :)

I had to let one go (the red one), but I still have the Marilyn and my latest ash/walnut one (the one I posted here), which is the one I play mostly anyway these days. I must say, I've definitely seen their equals in these threads, but none I truly like better, at least (thankfully!). :)

of the ash/walnut?

Thanks,

Here's a few of the Marilyn (#8, and being a "Marilyn" means it has a chambered body... it's not solid)...

A current one with the custom knobs installed... woods/layers in the knobs match the woods/layers in the body... alder, ebony, purpleheart, and water cured redwood.

Here's a cool one with Mike just before it left the shop. Not a high quality picture, but still pretty cool IMHO. :)

Here's a few product shots from when it was brand new, which show off the color variations a bit better, and you can kinda' see the flaming in the blistered ebony in the first pic... it shows up as faint diagonal lines, but in certain light conditions, you can really see them. Very rare.

Here's a couple close-ups of the custom knobs...

Hope you dig'em.

hello MTD owners,

i'm not a member but i've got a question concerning MTD's ash bodies. i hear they're referred to as medium weight ash bodies and i was wondering how if they're more on the heavy side and whether they have more the characteristics of white ash/northern hard ash bodies or swamp ash bodies.
most of them look more like swamp ash bodies.

thanks for the help.

They're more the regular (what you call northern/white) ash, with those same characteristics. BTW, swamp ash just means it comes from a certain part of the tree, it's not a genus. You can probably specify lighter swamp ash if you want, but Mike generally doesn't like to build with it because it's a lot harder for him to find a piece that sounds the way he likes in the lighter stuff.

Yeah, I managed to get him to build me a lighter ash body'd bass, but it took him a while to find a piece he was happy with.

That said, I really like the sound of the heavier stuff a lot, but I just can't shoulder that kinda' bass all night anymore. :hmm:
