Super looking bass, Leon - and I know exactly what you mean regarding the tight low end!
No idea how to search this so I thought I'd ask here...
I recently picked up a 2007 535-24 that has what appears to be a shiny area near the truss rod cover (popping area) and one between the pickups above the B string...the rest is a flat hand rubbed oil finish
Is there a way to restore those shiny areas and prevent them from happening?
Are you sure it's an oil finish? His standard is a satin urethane finish, which almost looks like oil. So, over time, in the places where it gets played often. It can tend to get shiny spots. But, I think they are fine. Mine has them too and unless you are right next to it. You can't see it.
You can send a note to Mike and get his recommendation. But, I would guess you would be able to use a 3200 grit sandpaper. Maybe 2400 and go to 3200 if you see too many scratches. Above 3200 grit... it will get you to a more shiny finish again.
Definitely the best option, because it'll just get shiny spots from wear no matter what you do. The good news is, the finish is still fully intact and protecting the wood....I'm probably going to leave it be
No point risking damage...I'll just call it mojo![]()
Anyone install a ramp on your MTD? I'm curious and interested in one for my 635. Thanks.

Wow - like a painting. Very cool. What are the specs?
Buckeye burl. I was choosing between this and a figured myrtle burl piece I posted before. I'm really digging the buckeye.
Any thoughts on tone (if you believe the top wood has any effect at all)? I know some folks have suggested that buckeye burl is a tone sponge...
Cool - sounds good! It's funny Michael said the same thing. He thinks he can still give me the tone we're shooting for with a northern ash body/maple neck and either a striped or Macassar ebony board. If he says it then I believe it.
