The Official MTD USA Thread

Thanks man. Not at all, ima sit her down and tell her tomorrow. I got the Fodera last week Wednesday, and Im picking up the MTD tomorrow. I figured it would be better to tell her about 2 basses at one time, than to tell her about 1 bass two times.

So how will you decide which bass to play?

I know different basses speak to players in different ways. And everybody is different. But for me, I've owned and sold Smiths and played Foderas but I currently own and gig with my MTD. I feel it's in a class all it's own.

Enjoy your new bass(es).

Well, I have 3 Smith basses also, plus a new Fodera. My plan is to use 1 Smith as a gig bass, another as a practice, and my 6 string Smith doesnt hardly get any play time now. So I will just rotate 1 Smith, the Fodera and MTD. The other thought is that because they are all made with totally different tone woods, ill just take the one when going for a specific tone. Another thought is to pick and play at random. Or whichever case I grab, thats the bass I play.

I've always seen 535s go for an average of $3000 to $3200 used in the TB classifieds but lately I've noticed people listing them for more (there's even one currently listed for $4500). Has the price of a new 535 recently gone up?

Picked up my 535 yesterday. Man, I love this bass. I instantly fell in love with it. Everything about that bass is awesome.

Maybe those in the range of $3000–3200 were built years ago while the one listed for 4500 was just made in less than a year?

Not sure why that would make much of a difference if the bass is in good condition unless the prices have recently increased. Wouldn't surprise me if the prices have gone up recently...
It has gone up just a little bit this year...

The total cost for a new Bass has gone up around $200 (nett price) for Basses ordered in 2014 & later. That's if you go with tops, etc

Perhaps people tend to think "oh it's so new it's out of factory just late last year; how bad could it be in just a few months?" and "oh that bass is ten year old it must have been through a lot, even though I can't tell from the pictures."

Just a mental thing...I guess :D

Yea, probably. :)

Okay, thanks for clarifying that!

I have a question: Can you negotiate the price with dealers? I can put down at least 1/3 of the total cost of the bass and I'm dealing with out-of-state dealers only to avoid California state tax.
Do you mean the total cost or the cost of a down-payment? Dealers might be flexible regarding the amount you pay up-front but I doubt you'll find any who are willing to negotiate the price of the bass.
