WOW! How ya been? Nice to know yer still out there. I've been pretty much lurking for a while myself. Some life changes have kinda' consumed a lot more of my time these days.Hey guys! It's that time of the year to pop into talkbass and say hey to my old TB buddies. What a treat to check out the MTD thread and find clips of the Bowlus Bass borg, with Mike, Tom, Jason, etc. Wonderful, and great memories. Hope you guys are all well. Mike sure does continue to turn out amazing instruments. Congratulations to Jason again for all his bass success, and becoming an MTD artist! Happy Holidays to everyone, and good gigging!!!!!!

It’s probably sacrelige to say on here, but I gotta tell you guys. I just pulled the NTMB out of my Saratoga USA 5 and dropped the old TCT Burbank re-issue (hrtct-5.4ap) in and it’s killer! It’s that old Tobias sound, minus the J pups. If anyone’s been thinking about it and been on the fence, I call it a win. IMHO anyway..

Thanks!Very nice rig and setup... Question.. Is that a Berg 210 or 212, CN, HD, HDN on top?
Thanks... I've got a REF210 and CN112.. I really Like the Berg cabinets.Thanks!
It’s an HDN112 with an HDN210 on top.
Thanks!

They really do, and I have the capability of grabbing either cab alone for rehearsals or smaller gigs. Especially gigs that involve stairs! LolI’ve got an AE410, but I’ve been thinking about selling it and going with that exact setup. I think I’d like the versatility, and those cabs sound great with the MTD sound.![]()
Hey fellow MTDTB'ers, just wondering if anyone here has done an a/b test between a 535 and super5. A quick YouTube search isn't yielding much in the way of comparison examples.
I know it's a long shot considering every bass is comprised of different wood combos. But amidst the 'tonewood debate' many feel that the pickup placement & electronics are just as influential (if not more) than the woods used. An obvious assumption would be the super will have more attack due to higher tension near the bridge, but no verbal description can truly replace actually hearing the difference.
Oh, and here's a pic of my 535

How is the geometry of the Super 5 different? It looks the same to me as any other 535.I am lucky enough to have one of each. I am also lucky enough to live an hour from Mike's shop and took a ride up to A/B in person and couldn't leave without placing an order for a Super 5. Tone woods aside, the Super 5 is voiced with way more growl and attack, and I also feel that the geometry makes the bass sit differently against your body.

Yeah, you are correct. Im not sure what it is, they just both sit differently against me.How is the geometry of the Super 5 different? It looks the same to me as any other 535.

I have the same bass but in a 4 string. I think mine has that old tct. It has volume volume then treble mid bass and active passive switch. I was thinking about updating it but it has such a great mtd or early Tobias tone that I’m sticking with itIt’s probably sacrelige to say on here, but I gotta tell you guys.
