The Official MTD USA Thread

I have had a custom from Hamer (back in the day), Skjold, Lull and MTD. All took longer than anticipated, but all were worth the wait. I told all the builders to take their time. If they had other fires to put out, I was cool with waiting. Sure, I got excited and asked a few times, but I didn’t really care where we were in relation to the quoted time. I was in the 9-12 months for all mine.

Still my no.1

Oh I'm definitely not to the point where I'm going to start asking. It'll be ready when it's ready.

I visited Mikes shop yesterday to pick up a new 535 (photos coming) and the delays are because he’s waiting on a back order of PreAmps. He received about 15 of them yesterday, so you should start to hear from him in the next few weeks. He likes basses to settle a while before final setup, to make sure there stable for shipping.

This was kind of a cool mistake. I went up to find a wood combo for a future build and we came across a roasted ash body with a holly top and a 1971 Martin Guitars Rosewood fingerboard that was headed to NAMM. But it didn’t have pickups yet. So we tried the Norm Stockton pickup but wired in parallel(not splitable). And the tone was just what I was looking for warm and jazzy but with a mellow voice. Mike goes “someone at NAMM is gonna love this thing”. I told him too late I want it. Meet the newest member of the family.

Thanks for the info!

Gorgeous! I think that’s the first Holly top I’ve seen on an MTD...

Congrats I love the look of Holly on a MTD and I dig the orange in the Rosewood board it looks it could be Brazilian.

While crazy wild figured tops are all the rage on boutique instruments, there is something that is just pure class about that holly topped instrument. Wow!

How long did it take him/them to put all the rest of it together while you were there? Looks like a lot of work.

It was about 3 hours. He was

Thanks, I feel the same way about the holly top. It’s very classy, these photos hardly do it justice. When I get it in my studio I will take better photos.
