The Official MTD USA Thread

Hey everyone, gear alert: I am selling a set of Nordstrand Big Blades, Big Rigs, and Flexcore Preamp that all once sat in my (sadly sold) MTD 535-24, if anyone wants to change up their electronics.

I did the great electronics switching dance with my MTD. The Big Blades + Flexcore was definitely my favorite.

In any case, happy holidays!

I don’t like wood knobs, so I got a set of Mike‘s black plastic knobs to retrofit a used 535 I got this year. It’s a Super5 configuration, so it has a stacked pot. The plastic knobs don’t seem to properly fit on that, the top one is sitting too high. Am I doing something wrong? Is this how the Super5 basses are shipped?

If you take that stacked pot out and thread another nut onto the shaft down to the bottom before re-mounting it, your problem will likely be solved. Then the lower knob's top should sit flush with the top of the lower shaft, and the top knob should fit on just right.

I'm with you on wood knobs BTW. I've found I like a certain mix of inorganic and organic elements on a bass or guitar, and wooden knobs generally tip the scale too far for me. Not so weird, right? Like same with cars - some nice, understated wood finishes inside can be cool, but put that wood paneling on the outside too, a la the Family Truckster, and NOPE :roflmao:

The first paragraph…that’s what she said.

So I had some time to kill, and looking at MTD Saratogas with a stacked knob (and no wood knobs ;)) it looks like it’s a different top knob

And just to double check on a 535 with the super electronics, I tried swapping my knobs out

So yeah, you need a different top knob…

Brilliant, thanks for that! Looks like Mike shipped the wrong knob.

Has anyone ever put a tone control in a MTD? while i think the 3 band eq is pretty powerful rolling off the high end drops the volume quite a bit. Ideally it would be stacked with the treble knob if that would be possible, not sure there is enough room for another pot in that cavity...
