Well I think I got it figgered out. Turns out the Qparts knobs already come with a sleeve inside them, which you can remove if you need to. I took the sleeve out and tried the knobs again and they were way too wobbly, so I put the sleeve back in and I finessed it so it was level. I had to hold it really carefully with one hand, and only tighten the set screw the minimal amount. The more I tightened, the more it tends to tilt to one side or another, so the trick was to tighten it minimally. Now they seem level. They work fine and they look great. Oddly, thanks for tipping me off to these knobs, and Kev1955 thanks for the info about sleeves -- I wouldn't have even bothered to look if you hadn't mentioned that.

Here's a shot of the new ones. I actually took off the position indicators because I kept bumping into them with my fingers. Too clumsy. Maybe I'll throw 'em back on. I love the look of these new knobs. They're called "UFO Acrylic Red Pearl". I hope all that dust is on my phone and not the bass...

I am about to dive in (probably tomorrow) and replace the stock bridge on my 'kat with a Hipshot SuperTone bridge that I just got. I notice that on the stock bridge, the bolt holes (screw holes? post holes?) are even with the back of the bridge. But on the Hipshot, that's not the case -- the back of the bridge is maybe a half-inch farther back than the bolt holes. I'm not sure if my current strings will be long enough, given that the ball ends will be farther back than they are now. From the looks of it, my A and D strings should be fine, but I'm not sure about my E and G. Anybody else run into this issue?

I never used the super tone but in case you haven’t seen back around posts 70-100 lots of discussion on bridges and strings

@john, yeah I had this issue with my E string.
I just barely had enough to get one and a half wraps around the post after the change.
The G was fine...I must have been more generous in my cut on that when I put them on.
It worked, but I went ahead and got a new set anyway!:)

Oddly, that new set you put on is the LaBella Deep Talkin' 760FS-S, correct (from your earlier post)?
