I'm only starting, and that's what i got to learn bass :•)
Tokai Jazz Sound from 1980

Take my advice ... DON'T EVER SELL IT TO BUY ANOTHER BASS! Keep it and save up the cash for another bass, if you ever need one ;).

Those '80s Tokais are just about as close to pre-CBS Jazz Basses as you can get, for under $1,000 anyway. I've had stacks of basses over the years and only recently did I get my first Tokai Jazz Sound - it's become my favourite bass ever!

In fact, I've just bought another one (a Candy Apple Red one like yours), although it's still in England and I'm over here in Germany :(.

They're really easy basses to play on as well, IMO, as the necks are slim and it's usually possible to get a great set-up as the quality of both woods and workmanship is surprisingly high.

You're off to a great start there, RoBoBOBR - all you need now is a nice valve amp to go with it :D.

Keep up the practise ;)!

I took some current pics of my small stable.

1982/84 JV (Japanese Vintage) Squier Jazz Bass. They don't make them like this anymore.

I've only had the Jazz for 2 weeks but it's a great sounding and great playing bass. I think it makes a good stable mate for the 'Wick.

:hyper:

It used to be plain oil-finished.
I just scraped it off with sandpaper and painted acrylic colors on it.
When the paints gets firm,I sprayed polyurethane clear spray.
It wasn't so hard.
I'm satisfied with the finish!
