Yeah man, that was my first serious bass. Great instrument for the price!
My new MIA Precision that I bought from a TBer. Added pup/bridge covers and a tug bar, and strung with LaBella 760FMs.. absolutely love this thing.

Gave a little face lift to my fretless. NEVER liked a white pickguard on a sunburst bass...plus I just got it back from my "shop" where they sealed the neck so my rounwounds won't shred it.

No, it was actually a tomato stake, later that day, I went to Lowes and bought a nice iron rod, so much more solid, and a cello endpin rest to boot.

oh, this is so nice! please, soundfiles or short clips of that bass. i need to hear it, especially with those roto nylons!
what year is that Ibanez BTB 405QM? i thought the newer models were neck through? i was thinking of getting one for that reason.
FYI: Yep... the newer ones ARE neck-through... found this online

I remember reading somewhere that a lot of Js built around '83 were made using excess parts that had been around for a while.

Right on! When I was looking at the picture, my wife was sweeping our kitchen and our broom has a green handle on it. The pic then made me chuckle a little.
I would love to try and learn how to play an upright bass sometime but that probably won't be for a while.
It looks like it went back to '82 as well. I was looking at a local shop this weekend and found a "brother" to my bass that had the same serial number run; S855 but it was an '82 stamp dateand was a bottom nut trussrod with a 4 screw neck mount. Had to have been the exact same build run of necks.
But I also found another that was '83 neck stamped with a Rosewood DnB, an S866 serial start and had a top nut trussrod and a 3 screw neck mount.
So they must have really been digging around the parts bin in the early 80's.
