Yeah, You dont see many non matching peghead custom color basses.Being a Dec66 its right at the start of the drop off point for matching peghead basses.They were still produced but were a specified custom order option by this point.I think its very cool without.Besides i always thought that black with matching head looks a bit redundant compared to other color options offered.

1977 - 1992 Nicky Mathews Birds Eye 5-string Fretless - modded from star-shaped pawn shop freak with a Jazz bass neck to a 4-string P-body with the Jazz neck defretted - then a Warmouth birds eye fretless P neck and active PJ EMGs - then to a 5-string. Currently strung with Rotosound flatwounds:

My Fretted 89 Warwick Thumb Bass 5 NT. The perfect bass when frets are needed. Now strung with DR High Beams.

Here's a nice pair of Fenders.
1996 50th Anniversary Precision and Jazz. Bookmatched flame maple fronts and backs, gold hardware, numbered neckplates.
500 made of each model. They came with black tolex cases with the late '60s type metal logo.
