Good taste! I also have a Squier CV P, a Corvette and an Ibby (although an SR instead of an ATK)
Finished rebuilding my first DIY 5 string I made over 15 years ago.

Modified the neck profile and put on a new fingerboard and new body wings (taking in account the amount of work that needed to be done, building a new bass would have been less work and a lot easier!).
Only things still used from the original build are the neck, pickups, tuners, bridge and a small piece of the original body wood (the top strip at the centre of the body).
It's neck through, Bartolini pickups with Glockenklang 2 band eq.
The body has a Zebra wood top and back, Mahogany core and the neck a Wenge fingerboard.

She has a Claro Walnut top, Curly Hard Maple fingerboard, and Quarter-sawn Northern Ash neck and chambered body.
4 string, pickups are Passive Seymour Duncan Soapbars. Controls are Volume, Blend (both wired backwards, oops) and Tone. Bridge is Schaller and tuners are Gotoh.
Parts from Warmoth, wood from Downs and Reader/eBay/Goby Walnut.
Let me know what you think! This one is mine but I am making more, possibly to sell. I need a five string and possibly a fretless, but I cant afford to keep more than three. Upcoming and in progress include:

Hello. I guess this is as good a place as any to make my introduction post. 
My name is Mike Crews and I'm a new member on this forum, and a new bass player. I started this summer, began private lessons in September. I also have a short 4-week garage band class my instructor put together at the request of another student, so I got to play with other musicians right away. The 8-week regular garage band class begins in January, and I've already signed up. Loads of fun. I haven't played an instrument - with or without other people - since high school band, where I played baritone and euphonium.
I bought a couple of different types of cheap basses from GC, taking advantage of their 60-day return policy. Tried a Squire Jazz, a P-bass copy, and Danelectro 56 reissue. Surprise surprise, this new player prefers short scale bass on account of ease of playing. I also have small hands for a grown-up person (49 yrs of age). One day I'll revisit the P and J long scale basses, after I have acquired some technique and strength in the fingers.
So the long and short of it is, I took back the cheap basses to GC, and traded them in for a new Gibson SG Standard Bass, which I love! Way fun to play, and I know it's not as versatile tone-wise as a J or P bass, but it does great for the easy songs I am learning at this stage. "White Room" was one of the first songs I learned to play.
I just gotta watch myself. This is not the first hobby I have entered where there are many fancy and expensive toys to tempt me. I also into SCUBA, sailing, and astronomy.
Here's a photo of the bass when I got it home to my sailboat, which I live aboard in San Pedro, CA. If I see Mike Watt around town, I'll wave at him for ya.

Hey why not have fun. That's the beauty of being an adult we can afford toys that are better than our skill level I've got two bases, a good amp and it's all above my skill set but why not buy a bass I can keep the rest of my life and be proud of" Besides it makes playing so much better and it's lots of fun to show off.

Knowing a bit about the expense of scuba gear, I see what you're saying. And sailing? Wow. Throw in some photography, and maybe some road cycling, and you're on the fast track to the poor house.
Nice bass, I like it a lot. Plenty versatile enough for most anything.
Yes, I'm loving it. very versatile, superb playability. Got it on sale for approx. 2k US here in Thailand which is a great deal here.
