Thanks. I have to say I'm partial to Oly white/tort and also black/tort for that reason. Looks as good to me now as those combos did 30+ years ago.

Okay so over the weekend I decided to pass on my Harley Benton MM-84a to my son as a early easter gift, This left me with a vacancy in my bass rack so I decided to check out some p basses, I used to have a 1982 JV Squier that I stupidly let go while my mind was in a fog after my wife passing away. While surfing this site I came across the Vintage V-4BLK with mirror guard (Phil Lynott & Steve Harris are my bass heroes), I found it on Evilbay from a store in York for £395, she arrived this morning.
Out of the box she virtually perfect.
Just a slight truss rod tweak and the action lowering to how I like it
Paintwork & hardware fit and finish are perfect
Intonation was spot on
The pickup sound fantastic through my Ashdown ABM
Both controls are super responsive.
Minor niggles
The frets could do with a re-polish (a couple of rough spots)
The bass weighs 9Lb 14ozs but is slightly neck heavy (thats what wide straps are for)
Factory fitted strings are rubbish to say the least (with be restrung with Rotosound 77's Flatwound) I've never tried flatwounds, so should a interesting experiment
The only mods I'm thinking off (only because I already them in my parts draw)
3 string tree to stop any A string buzz (though she doesn't have any at the moment)
I may fit a Gotoh 201b (may have to shim the neck to keep my prefered string height)

Right: Fender Jazz Road Worn (year 2009, bought in February 2024 new!)
They costed me 1500 euros in total, and wouldn’t sell them for double!
So different girls, none of them is a sophisticated, elegantly dressed lady, they are more…well, they are just soooo sexy as they are and in all they do!
1 cons only: you can’t be with both at the same time

The Steinberger is a rare 1990 Q5. My brother had it in semi-permanent loan, but I recently got it back. The Ibanez is what I play these days: two "almost single coil" pickups and a piezo. It's lovely.

Hah. Yeah, for a while I didn't play bass, and he was 1. in a band 2. with a crap instrument 3. pennyless. But I had been regretting it for a while.
They sound great! I have an RS800 and it's somehow in a sweet spot between a Stingray, a P bass and J bass - chunky, growly with a little bit of the SR sweetness. yeah this rs900 sounds amazing. it came with relatively new strings (though i don't know what they are), a fresh battery and everything's working and sounding awesome on it. i haven't weighed it yet but it's def heavier than both my sx and bb basses but it's not so heavy that it bothers me. i know i just got it but i love it and it may be a forever bass for me

There is a great site which deals with all things Ibanez, where I would be willing to bet you the whole 5¢ they have the brand and gauge of strings for that bass listed:

yeah! i've looked the wiki over for info before i bought the bass. originally it would have had 45/65/85/105, i'm just not sure what's on it at the moment. they've definitely been changed somewhat recently, i think. they seem new and have colored ball ends.
