The official "Show your basses" thread part 19!

Got the new-ish to me Ibanez open pore bass. This thing is surprisingly good. Granted I have not tried the Earthwood, Tacoma Thunderchief or the Guild bass, this is really awesome for the price. Better than 3 Kingmans I tried. A tad bit better than a Breedlove I tried (the bigger bodied one). Aside from a minor hitch with the UST, everything was perfect. Strung it up with some flats and I am happy camper.

I have changed it up a bit. 3 Fender P's - 1 fretless, 1 maple neck and 1 rosewood neck (with EMG's). The maple and fretless have La Bella flats and soon the rosewood will also.

About a month ago, in message 2757, I uploaded my new bass. I said then that I was going to have the pickguard changed and then I'd post again. Well, I got baby a new outfit and I'm here to post a couple of pix. Here they are:

I haven't been on here in years! Good to see everyone again! Well, lets start. A very good friend of mine builds custom basses. Shawn May www.maycustombasses.com. He's built for people like Tye Zamora and John Stockman. His work is amazing. The first I had him build for me I call the Pink Panther.
Figured Myrtle top, Pink Ivory board, knobs and covers. Swamp ash body with a maple neck. After this, I had him build one of the only bolt on basses hes put out so far. This one is "Skyhawk".
We kept this one pretty simple. Spanish Cedar body, flame maple top, maple neck and a rosewood board. One of two bolt on basses he has built and one of the few using a colored stain. LED lit side markers. Finally we come to my number 3 from him that is still in progress. It will be a six string fretless. Buckeye, walnut, and purpleheart top with a purpleheart board with walnut binding and maple markers.

Just a basic, easy to play 2013 Ibanez SR305.

The lighting kills off the colour, but it's a nice metallic silver that gives just enough flash without being too over the top like some finishes I've seen with large flakes.

I bought it new last March for $400 and saved myself about $60 compared to a 2015 model.

***EDIT: I found this pic that I took last summer when I was working with some folks over at the Ibanez forums to figure out why I couldn't find any 305's in past catalogs with this finish. Turns out it was a colour exclusive to Long & McQuade that year.

Who made this bass - Great

Some very skilled workers in CHINA.

It's a Squire Classic Vibe 50's P Bass. I cannot be happier with it ether. It's exactly what I was looking for to do a ZZTop tribute. I was sitting in a music store out in Minnesota, New / Old stock. It's a very good one, I got blessed ! I didn't know a bass could play so good. $373.00 shipped !

I just keep making tweaks to things. Just picked up a new (for me) Squier Chris Aiken Precision neck with custom painted headstock in the classifieds and I have to say that I absolutely love the look of this guitar even more now with a matching headstock. I was never sure if a matching headstock on a maple neck would look right but I think this one works quite nicely, especially with the block inlays. Anyway, here are a couple pics along with the current lineup.

I call this bass "Yang" as it's the opposite of my all-black Fender Jazz Bass Special (obviously called "Yin"). If only EMG made their GZR's with replaceable covers. It's screaming for a white cover! I also have a chrome Hipshot Style-A bridge on order as well to complete the setup.

Here's the full lineup. I also recently replaced the fretless neck on my Jazz (2nd from left) with a maple blocked and bound.

Anyway, thanks for looking!
