Neither of us has had the Dean version. I would love a Dean model in Jeff's specs - amber finish over Alder, Badass bridge and Schaller tuners, Bartolini pickups etc. The full-price model. They're incredibly rare. I can dream about one day finding one!
I guess I got you confused with someone else on another thread. I was watching the Dean patchwork on GC used for a while and the price came down to $679, but it had the maple fretboard. Someone else snatched it up as I was hoping it would drop just a little lower. Have fun with the Paladium!
I think that would be me, I recall the bass in question. Quite a rare thing in itself and odd that it had a maple fretboard, but I later dug up an old Dean webpage with a patchwork bass with a maple board. I find the patchwork top to be absolutely beautiful and best complimented by an ebony fretboard.
Craigslist cheapie. Filthy with a pink strap but not a scratch on it. Didn’t like how the black p-guard made the neck look out of place and found a gold one for 25 bucks. A quick setup and it will be a good backup. Where’s that quarter pounder...

When I got this it was shipped in a small box with the neck detached. I almost pooped myself!
This is the one that was on GC used Bass for so long that sold for $679 I was buying other things and just waited too long. Heck, I can't buy everything. LOL
Notice it also has chrome hardware instead of goldI also bought this Chinese Jeff Berlin Player made in 2010. It is gorgeous but not the same as the Czech made 1999. It has Bass Lines pups which are Seymor Duncans and the bass is active. It has a bridge that is 'like' a Bad ass II. It does not have Schaller or Gotoh or Grover tuners. They are Grover 'like'
I also bought this one but returned it because it did not come with the hard case that was advertised. I was so mad about being lied to that I didn't even take it out of the case to look at it. It is a 1999 similar to mine made in Czech Republic with the same basic features however the tuning pegs are parallel.
In hindsight it was really stupid of me to do this because this is the one that has the headstock with a greater break angle that is much better for the strings at the nut. The other tuner arrangement sometimes has trouble with the 'A' and/or 'D' string unless you have a good 4 windings on the tuners to have a good break angle as these headstocks are flat. This was also a 1999 model. These were the sellers pix. I have not seen it surface on the net since I returned it. I got a total complete refund including shipping both ways. REVERB really helped me out. But like I said, I now regret getting so miffed. I should have just waited until I cooled down. Oh well...live and learn.
Also notice that the older models have the 'Dean' logo oriented vertically rather than horizontally.

Sure, no not an Epi. Although Epi makes/made (?) one (Non Reverse) it has the Fender P/J pickup configuration. The one in the pic is a 68 Gibson Thunderbird II. In the below pic from left to right....

Me and my Guitar player ordered a matching set of Epi Korina Explorers for our ZZTop Tribute Band. They had to send 3 Basses until I got one without shipping damage, due to improper packing from both the factory and retailer.
I wasn't satisfied with the sound of the factory Humbuckers so I temporarily installed an EMG 35P4 in the bridge position. It brought the Bass alive. I found an EMG 35JCS very cheap on Ebay to fill the neck position to match. To my surprise the J in the neck position sounds fantastic. I may do some experimentation and swap them but I'm now very happy with this explorer.

Yes Sir and I have another MegaBass spare. I love them. I don't mind the weight. I use the Tech 21 DP-3X as a PreAmp to drive them. Most gigs I only use the T-Max driving the Ampeg 2 x 15 V-6 cabinet. It's fun to use it all with 3 cabinets here in the rehearsal studio. It's a wicked rig, IMO.
