Somewhere not too far down my GAS list is a '70's (red- naturally)
matching Competition Mustang.
Love this. I have both of these basses, and they are 1 and 2 on the list of best Fender P basses I have played. I'm not really sure which is 1 and which is 2, though. My '70 is near and dear to my heart, though.

What's the deal with the thumb? Who did the headless conversion? How is the balance? How are the 3 pickups wired?
I had a Nate for a bit...nice bass and did the same. The standard issue threaded saddle bridge swap. Set up lower and just felt right. I'll get another sometime, I miss it. Yours is sexy too!
Just finished mounting my collection in the new place. A couple of non-basses as well. Had a bunch of stands before, wanted something more permanent here. Boards mounted in the studs. Downsized a bit beforehand, too.

I finally broke down and got my first Fender bass, I’m still not convinced the design will catch on, but it is quite nice...

That’s the one! I don’t know who did the conversion but it was done at least 2 owners ago. I’ve been meaning to map out the wiring but it is pretty busy. I think the toggle chooses the pickup pair and a knob changes the blend. On the stacked knob the bottom seems to be bass boost but it you go over half it seems to almost become more trebly. I just found 3 setting I like and stick to those.
The balance is perfect. Very comfortable and no dive. There is a second strap lock on the tail a few inches up that makes the neck balance horizontally if that suits the playing style better.

I wish my Ashdown volt-meter had a nice warm glow to it like yours - instead it's a somewhat blinding white light... oh well, first world problem...

I love that feature and i also hate it. Been changing lightbulbs of the ashdown vu-meter so many bloody times... got to figure out how to replace it with a warm-white LED one day...
Sounds like the stacked knob could be mid boost/cut with a frequency sweep. At the bottom of the sweep would be low-mid which could sound like a bass boost, at the top of the sweep would be high-mid that could sound treble-y. You can work out which pickups are on by simply tapping gently w a screwdriver. Very cool bass

I looked at the white plastic unit it is encased in and it doesn't appear to be a simple 'change the bulb' operation. It looked like you have to replace the unit. But it sounds like you have been able to do this. Do you have pics of the unit disassembled? I imagine a suitable less bright warm bulb should be available somewhere.
