I've owned a '64 T-bird II (one pu version) since '78 - (the IV was the 2 pu version) After the Gen 1 bird came out, Fender sued Gibson saying it looked too much like their Jaguar/Jazzmaster (!?!) so Gibson "reversed" it (second version- the one you pictured) actually making it look more like the Jaguar/Jazzmaster!) So here's the tricky part - the original is referred to as "reversed" and the later version is referred to as "non-reversed", when in fact it is the other way around! (the second version reversed from the original) The official explanation is that the original design looked like an existing body style reversed... (sorta' kinda') So you can have a non-reversed IV which is a reverse of the original style with 2 (not IV) pu's... yes, leave it to Gibson.

I have this wiring diagram I want to follow for VVT series wiring, minus the "cut traces":

So for orientation and making sure I'm hitting the correct terminals, is this "Top Down" (i.e. pot shafts are pointed at you"? this would be when soldering on the underside it's backwards?

Generally when looking at a drawing like this the POV is looking at the pot top. Looking at your drawing is very confusing and is probably why it's not correctly wired. These diagrams can easily be found on the net - just type in VVT wiring schematic.

Correct, that is for parrallel wiring. I am looking to try this mod, just without the trace cuts.

It is wiring the pickups in series so its going to be different. Check out the sound clips as well...

Nice picture If it were me - the sticker is off within seconds of owning the bass. Never understood leaving it on but it's your bass.
