What about the longer E string? Since the bridge barrel remains on the default position, the length is still 32" no matter the longer string. So, what gives? Care to educate me a bit?

actually it is a longer B string .... this keeps the B string from breaking in the tuner ... at the other end
You see I use 34" scale strings on a 32" scale bass
so yes I have a low B that is 32" scale and it works fine ... but the tuner on the headstock will hit the string where it starts to taper and then the string breaks

Probably to insure the outer wraps of the string do not go around the tuning post.

Those are great pics with beautiful models!
Personally, I'm just glad that some factories make basses that I can tolerate, because I do not have the time, skill, or patience to build like those. All are very cool!
i've always enjoyed seeing your axes, @Ric5 --- and you've put in some great work, they're unique --- too cool! 
the leaf motif is also cool...but i gotta say: your leaves are way more beautiful than the stuff i have to deal with!

Ya I DIY plastic and wood pickguards ... I have limited tools in my workshop, I don't have a cnc of a lot of other machines that some people have in their workshops so some of the pickguards have cosmetic flaws ...

time ... well sometimes my builds take weeks, sometimes months, and sometimes years. I buy as many parts as I can for the builds
Well the flaws are hard to see from the pics I guess. I didn't notice any flaws, I just couldn't think where I've seen such things for sale so I wondered if you made them.
Looking at them inspires me to make some myself. Any tips?
I am guessing those are made from making your own mdf from veneer? I have the basic tools, can make a press, wood glue, I have a router and coping saw.
Or is it just something planed down?

You do nice work, you and i seem to have similar tastes.... crazy pickups and pick guards. I too am limited in tools but i do like cutting pick guards and fabbing control plates. And of course playing with the electronics.
I cant join in your leafy background motif though,
