Back from the shop 1984 Peavey Furydation...

After one day of playing - it is actually a nice bass. Great construction and easy playability, Lobster mentioned the pickups were a little light on the bottom side.

But he plays rounds on his, I have ordered a set of labella flats and will make my decision then. I feel the flats will beef it up a bit, but who knows.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Those flats will certainly beef up the bottom.

Marcus Miller has worked with Sire to create some really nice affordable instruments with all the features without the exorbitant price tag. I have a 5 string M5 with rounds and a 5 string P7 with flats. They are my two favorite basses to play.

I've been super curious about these. That looks great. So what's the good, the bad, and the ugly about it?? What did they do well and what's just so-so? Help a brotha out.

Tomorrow or Friday I will be putting some flats on her and I will get some close up pics for this page. But for now I am really liking this bass - all the hype aside, I really like the feel of the construction and say it is as good as some of the American stuff out by Fender. The finish on the neck is beautiful and kinda reminds me of a Ric 4001 or 4004. The gloss finish on the board and the matte on the back really look and feel good.

The tuners and the push fit knobs could maybe be a little better, but the tuners do hold and work pretty good. No neck dive, but I use a very large nylon strap.

Lobster did not like the bridge - but I am used to the one on my 71 P bass - so it is ok for me (it works). No bad sound from the pots. And as I said the pickups are a bit on the high side as Lobster said - but maybe it will be different when she gets a nice set of LaBella flats.

He did rate it 4 out of 5 claws and his down sides were the pickup and the bridge - if you watch his mod video on You Tube - he replaced the pickup and bridge but not the controls. Oh yeah on the light side - on my bathroom scale - 8 pounds 3/4.

Also - the only place I could find them in stock was Chicago Music Exchange - and they still have some or did when I got this.

Bought last month, some kind of cheap Glarry bass; to change the look a lil' bit, replaced knobs with Strat guitar style.

thanks! Yes - I designed it and sculpted/made the one piece string-thru alder body about 10 yrs ago. SF luthier Dan Ransom made the maple/ebony 24 fret set-back hs neck to my specs/hs design, and Pat Wilkins did the finishing. It has 9v EMGX pu's/pre and Gotoh tuners. I named it the Supersonic. It's strung with GHS Precision flats and plays/sounds great. Oddly enough I have yet to record with it - something I'll have to rectify!

I was visually referencing/echoing the bodies upper horn shape. I wasn't aware of the Warwick 'Buzzard' bass yet, so when I showed Dan my design - he schooled me on its origin. Entwhistle designed it and Dan was given the task of making one of its early prototypes. Straight from the ‘ox's’ mouth!
