Thats a LowEnd T-Bird 5. That thing is a beast. Brian Barrette knocks these basses out of the park. I looked for a long time. I drove to his shop (9hrs) and once I felt it I knew I couldn't live without it. Heck of a cool guy too. Bought 3 pieces from him.

(sorry about the poor audio...it all came through one mic down in front of the lead guitarist, then onto whatever kind of tape the TV station used, then through the local cable company, then onto VHS, then many years later ripped to digital via an old VCR and a cheep digital-rip box...)

My Danelectro DC Bass with Gotoh tuners, D'Addario Chromes, and a hand-painted pick-guard. I am in love with its tone and can't imagine needing another bass.

I have a question: are those tuners original, or replacements?

The reason I ask is because I recently broke a tuner on my Danelectro "63 model" bass. It has the standard Danelectro guitar-sized tuners. I can't decide whether to get new original-size tuners or take the risk and install the larger bass tuners.

I have a spare set of tuners like the ones on yours, but I haven't installed them because I will need to widen the holes in the headstock, and I worry about weakening it.

Any thoughts?

They are replacements.
I think your concerns are well founded -- I had mine installed by a professional and he told me the Gotohs were the only ones they had that wouldn't necessitate drilling out too much material from the headstock. They don't have any kind of model number on them, but I can try to find out what he used.

Thanks GFB! We most definitely had a lot of fun with it. We had the weirdest sound in town!

Vox: the guitar and amp that guy was using are both 1966 items, and at the time he had the entire 1966 Vox guitar product-line. The amp still having the 'TV-stand' carrier made it quite rare. Since then he's sold all his Vox stuff except for one guitar and he no longer plays in bands. He's now hand-crafting banjos, and I think maybe dulcimers too.

The Musicvox Space Cadet is the new one I'm obviously a fan of Fender P-basses, but the Musicvox quenched my thirst for something a little different with a "throwback sci-fi" look to it and big-ass pickups. I have Nylon wounds on it and it thumps quite nicely. Very flat fretboard.

1) Squier with Duncan Quarter Pounders - my "beater" bass, but it is quite sweet
