The official "Show your basses" thread part 19!

Just received. Bought it from Eddie’s Guitars via internet and couldn’t be happier. Plays, sounds, and looks amazing to me. I’m incredibly happy to own this. 20 years ago I blew off PRS bass efforts as out of touch. Oops View attachment 4858187 View attachment 4858180View attachment 4858189
That is stunningly beautiful!

I have a poor man's version. A Kingfisher SE, with Seymour Duncan SSB-4 pickups, and Bartolini 2-band preamp.

The best sounding 4-string bass I own. Plays like a dream, Hipshot hardware, one piece thru body with thru body strings. She is a beast.

Cool. Is that Jazzy McPbody's cousin? (StewMac body)

No, that one got a 'holy' weight loss treatment and was sold years ago. Novak Darkstar & Warmoth wenge/ebony neck.

My P/J I posted also got the 'holy' treatment. Alder with a maple cap. AllParts maple J neck.

Marty Bell did the silver & gold sparkle/trans tobacco finish.

It got the other silver & gold tuner set + a drop-D.

Ahhh, I remember that one now. Both are lovely.

I really like how you alternated the tuner finishes! It's something I would do...
very nice work. Great sparkle finish as well. I have a gold sparkle ASAT.

Hipshot is a great 'made in the US' company - I asked if they could do this 'mix & match' silver/gold on my tuner and they did it at no extra cost. They even threw in the gold lever for free. I've used many Hipshot products over many years and can't say enough about them - they make quality products and deserve our support.

not me.
LOL.

I'm not sure where you can get a sparkle finish now that Marty has retired. Most finishers avoid shooting it considering the mess it makes and the amount of clear-coats/leveling it takes to bury it. Mary did a number of my finishes - his straight ahead finishes were also good, but he was the master of sparkle.

This is an unaltered pic of sunlight focused on my Super SLX. (pre wenge/ebony custom neck) I asked Marty to give me an 'eggplant sparkle' finish... he nailed it.

I use Hipshot whenever I can (though I am partial to Schaller roller bridges and tuners as well). They are indeed excellent.

Totally agree - I use Schaller 3D roller-saddle bridges and tuners also. Great designs and great quality. I just wish Schaller would RI their 8-string bridge.

Yes I have a number of the Schaller bridges installed - my favorite! Before Hipshot it was pretty much all Schaller for the best hardware, though others i.e. AllParts, Schector, Gotoh, Wilkinson, et al quickly filled in with good gear as well.
I really like that Bi-Sonic...what kind of pickup is it?
I have an original Hagstrom Coronado IV with 2 of them and I think they sound amazing!

I'm thankful for the ones he was kind enough to do for me. He was the champ.

The Darkstar Bi-Sonic is a single-coil pu. I agree - it sounds amazing, both the RI's made by Curtis Novak and Guild. :bassist:

Tha bottom one is super nice, what is it?

Thanks! :) It's a bass I designed/made* called the Super SLX - alder body/22 fret wenge-ebony neck, Schaller 3D bridge/internal bridge anchor/ Novak Darkstar pu/John East mid-sweep 9v pre/Sperzel locking tuners/etched brass neck and hs plate and inset Dunlop Straploks.
