This has been my main bass for the last few years. It's been an ongoing project that's about as done as I can get. I have plenty of other basses, but this has been my go to.

It started life as a Squier Affinity, then I swapped the neck for a '57 AVRI neck, dropped in a set of Duncan QPs, an Omega bridge, and changed all the pots for 500k ATKs. I alternated pickguard and bridge screws to chrome and black, and painted the pickguard in my garage. I run it with EB Cobalt flats.

I like it a lot. It's a bit heavier than my '14 American Standard which is currently my favorite. It's wonderfully crafted. The neck is a bit thicker front to back than my AmStd as well (my '14 AmStd truly is MY standard, LOL) ... currently I'm running the LaBella Gold flats on my 75th and I'm not in love with those ... so if I'm not sounding head over heals in love with that bass I blame these strings. I have a set of my normal LaBella's like I run on the AmStd that I should put on it ...

Take to S-media and post, post, post. get your views up and tell everyone you know to like your stuff. Pick a string company you like and a-lot of reviews with their products. That is a start.

Beautiful instrument, especially with your likeness in the finish...
Don't know why we don't see more of those in the wild. Not familiar with the technology behind the bridge. How does it hold tuning?

Yeah, the face was an added bonus..took a long time to find one that looked like me!;)
Phil Kubicki was a pioneer and his basses are very highly regarded with good reason. They do come around and are usually in good shape. They are well taken care of and kept for a reason. Everything from the 32" scale multi-lam neck design with vintage Fender 7 1/2" rad, hardware and electronics are all proprietary, designed by Phil. Briefly, the bridge is a tuning wheel you wind the string around and then tune up with the knob. It's a process and kind of a PITA, but once you get it, it holds tune. Very innovative, and the Drop D key is brilliant.
They have a lot going for them and I'm glad to have one again, especially in this condition.

Good explanation. I've often wondered about that.
So many different things about the instrument intrigue me like the fredboard. Is it ebony or Phenolic? Can you compare the tone to any other base you've experienced? My Ken Smith and Modulus w EMG's have a particular tone that I like in different applications.
The cut away in the body bout. Is it more ergonomically comfortable to play?
Interest piqued. And the inevitable "Does it come in a 'fiver' lol"?

This is a Ziricote neck. Technically it doesn’t need any finish but I put some Watco oil on it a few years ago to help keep it from drying out and keep its rich color. It always needed that final scuff down to satin which I finally did this morning :D I gave it a light coat of fingerboard oil which is just mineral oil and it feels incredible. Looks good too huh
