New guy here. Been playing since '79. On the right is my '77 4001 Ric, on the left is a Charvel. Just recently started trying to identify the Charvel. I bought it used around 1990, so I think its a late 80's 2B. I play through an Ampeg SVT-350H with the 810 cab. Also have a drum kit that I play now and then just for fun.

Is it me or does that Alvarez look completely miserable at having to sit beside that big guy.I've never seen such a sad expression. The big guy doesn't look to bothered tho'.Nice instruments, but buy that Alvarez a new set of strings or something, just to cheer him up!
What is ironic is that I have gotten more reactions to my Swingmaster, my Alvarez, and my Dean than my main bass, my Ibanez.
Don't worry. I love that Alvarez. I'll make sure he's happy.:bassist:

Just thought I'd throw these up. I've had the Grendel for a couple weeks now and It's really dialed in.

I really dig the wenge fretboard and how it extends to the headstock. I needed something capable of slightly more aggressive Jazz tone and I got it with this and then some. It came with DR Hi Beam Tapercores and they seemed a little harsh with the electronics so I tossed some D'addario XL nickels on it and it's definitely a little more manageable tone wise now. This Kingston 5 is still my No. 1 killa though. It's a total gut punch machine with the OBP-1 pre.

Can't wait for better weather for some outdoor shots. I have a tough time snapping black basses with this digi.

Thanx. Yes, it's a 7-string bass (and a couple sixers, and a 5).

Good eye on the cabs. Yes, that's an SWR Goliath III that you can see. It's sitting on a SWR 1x15 that you can't see. I like the sound of SWR cabs. The head is a Carvin BX1200. A better look at the basses:

I also like the sound of SWR amps and cabs. I use a Super Redhead combo amp, and I also use a WorkingPro 1x15. The 1x15 is great for taking care of the lows and taking some stress off of the Redhead.:)
Another great picture by the way.

What do you think of the fretless Q6?
It's definitely got a sound like nothing else, I can tell you. Which is what I got it for. With the graphite neck, the EMG pickups and the plastic fingerboard, it has a very penetrating, gritty-zingy almost weird cutting edge to it. Nearly impossible to describe in words. I can tell you that my wife pays little attention to my practicing, but whenever I pick up the Modulus she pipes up and says "That's the Modulus, isn't it?" It stands out, believe me!

And the Benavente is the complete opposite in so many ways. Where the Modulus makes no effort to blend in, the 7-string is a nice instrument for both bass and rhythm chording, without stepping on anyone. Where the Modulus neck is rock solid and never moves, the 7-string neck requires some adjustment every time I play it, sometimes twice. It's a very thin neck, very sensitive to climate and heating up from playing it.

The Tobias sixer (on the left there) is the best of all possible worlds - totally stable, incredibly low action without ever needing any adjustment, sounds like the Voice of God, plays so easy it's like cheating. It's the only instrument out of the whole family picture that I'd never part with. I don't think I could ever replace it.
