It's also interesting that the string anchors in the tailpiece seem to be really irregularly spaced as well. Are there multiple holes or slots that can be used there too? I'm just looking at the ball-end spacing basically. I haven't seen one of those bridges up close for a long time so it's just a curiosity thing.Doh! I didn't realize that pic was like that.

Now that I've got my two essentials, my intention is to play the heck out of them for the next 25 years until they turn into a pair of well-aged, well-worn, one-owner vintage axes by the time I'm 77. (Yes, I'm a bass rookie at 52!)
Regardless of what else I might end up acquiring in the future, these two will always stay with me (and my son, who's a better bass player than I am). Meanwhile, I'm happy to say I am completely free of any G.A.S. pains - at least for now.

digging the color, was checking those out online about a year ago when someone posted a thread about Jag clones.
Here's a pic that answers the question... there's tailpiece structure that makes the center strings kinda' scrunch up a bit. Thanks for the link. Interesting! I had 4001 once.

Is that a cream binding on a dark green sparkle ?
I havent been much on jazz bass' visually for a long time..but that looks awesome .
It's cream binding on a dark gray sparkle; Fender officially calls that color "Dolphin Gray". I guess I should try to take some pics outside so the light is clearer.

When I first saw it, I thought the strap folded around the bottom was a shadow, and it had a Dingwall type body.
It looked cool, but twas just my imagination.
