LaBella doesn't seem worried about the headstock end, but the bridge/tuner end:

It's hard to say as the black nylon tapes do have silk by the ball-end, but just not sure the turners would damage the silk. It could end up being an expensive experiment.

Magma already has silk on the ball end, so I think that's fine. I'll grab a set of LaBellas and try it I guess!

Looking to dive in to the Swan bass scene, but their lack of on-line presence is a bit worrying. Their website is no longer available and their FaceBook page is about a year out of date; the only thing they have is an Instagram page with some numbers so you can WhatsApp them. Not exactly inspiring to throw a hefty chunk of change at.
Does anyone know if they're still trading? Or have any contact details? Or can verify what's on their Insta page?
I've been chatting to a representative on the Argentinian number today who's been really helpful and quoted a pretty reasonable price, but I have no idea whether it's them or just some scammer in a bar somewhere.

They seem pretty consistently active on IG and they seemed to have a fair bit of stuff at the recent NAMM show, but I can understand how the drop off of FB postings (Sep 23) and no website could be worrying. There are a few people on TB who have recently taken delivery of new Swan basses, so they may be able to comment.

@Bernie Connors has recently received a bass from them.

@Pablo Primo knows the luthier.

I've had one and was thoroughly impressed (bought from Pablo). Hands down the best bass I've played (although to be completely transparent, I don't have much experience with boutique basses besides Fender Custom Shop, if they're even considered boutique).

I put a deposit for another last fall and it should be ready next month. I've received videos and pictures of the build. All of my communication was done via Instagram. No complaints whatsoever.

I did offer to help them with a website since their last one was hacked, but the conversation didn't really go anywhere. Not sure whether it had to do with a language barrier, NAMM getting in the way, or something else, but I can always help in that regard.

Yes, Christian is the owner of Swan Basses.

It’s definitely a legit company and they build a great instrument. You can speak with him via Instagram or WhatsApp.

Well I've only gone and done it
Spent about two hours chatting with Pola over WhatsApp and have kicked the process off for my very own Swan bass. Just need to pick the top, facing wood for the body and then I'll send him the deposit.
Thanks to everyone for their help and input, doubt I'd have gone ahead with it without your feedback. If it turns out whoever it was I was chatting with is a scammer; they're certainly playing the long game . . .

Hi guys, will soon post 2 of my Swans. Both headless, the first one is RHO 30.75” scale, Body Mahogany, Neck Maple and Wenge fingerboard. The second is an Alpha Infinity 34” scale, Body Ash, Neck Maple and Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard. Both 19mm strings spacing, Mike Pope Preamp and Lake pickups. If interested send me a PM.
