My take on the differences between the Dark Side and the Light Side in digital is this:
i suspect that Cannon makes superior cameras at the entry level, although right now Nikon is outselling them for this year. And when it comes to glass they are real close, Cannon has a few Nikon owners wish they could get like the excellent 70-210 F4 and a lot of cannon owners would love to have Cannon glass equal to the Nikon 28-70 f2.8.
In the high end Cannon Camera's do better motion picture photography by far, and Cannons sensors seem to be a little crisper at lower ISO's, but the Nikon sensors seem to have more color pop and more exposure latitude. In APS frame performance, Cannon and Nikons sensors are about even, but the Auto Focus on the D300 kills any of Cannons APS's. In full Frames, Cannons 5D MK II is probably a little better then the from what I hear. But the D3S is a way better performer for sports or low light. The D3S will shoot at 12000 ISO better then most cameras at 200 ISO, and its auto focus is faster and more accurate then anything in the Cannon stable.
All said you can do anything a professional needs to do with either system. If you go to my web site Link Removed you can see my NAMM shots, almost all the bass shots were shot hand held at 3200 ISO.
