Thanks for the comments, guys!

@Vorago - I think I agree on the crop. Good eye, dude.

@Warwick - I actually liked the one with deeper shadow (more drama) on the cheek, but I think the reflector softened it just enough. It's fairly classic lighting...

@Ziltoid - Canon 7D, several "L" series lenses. Although, I'm just a short time away from a 5D mkII

And what's going to happen to that poor old 7d after?

Did I mention I was in the market for a camera? :p

Actually I probably don't have the scratch for a 7d, even used, but if anybody's got something :ninja:

The 7D will become the backup/sports camera :) It shoots considerably faster, and has a more complex focusing system the the 5D Mkii. Rumor has it the 5D Mkiii will have the 45-point focusing system the 5D has, but I'm not going to wait for that....

Idk if it's been mentioned earlier in the thread but what are you shooting with (all of you!)?

Nikon D5000. I only have two lenses - 18-55mm and 55-200mm. I also frequently add a Nikon SB-600 speedlight for indoor candids.

My next purchase will be a decent tripod. After that probably a 35mm F1.8 lens.

Totally drooling over the new Nikon D7000. Looks absolutely killer.

Somehow I liked how this turned out. It's an iPhone pic.

I wanted to catch the rainbow in the back.

This is from one of my first days out with my new DSLR. I wish it were more centered and aligned, but i really like it regardless. Doubt ill ever walk by this building again with the same light conditions. so much character.

Very nice picture of the roadway.Nice job.I never see snow this part of the world.Where did you take that shot?

This is 1st ave in Downtown Spokane Washington at about 6:15 am. The 1st picture of the building is the historic Davenport hotel that was recently renovated. The east portion of the building is new construction made to look like what was there originally (early 20th century), but the job they did is forced and tacky. The type of modern construction techniques that tends to not last,...hence it non-inclusion in the frame.

(Please note this is not my photograph) This is the reconstruction. It is similar to what originally was there but serves a different function and again,...would probably fall down before the original hotel does; if there wasn't a maintenance crew

Ziltoid, you were asking about the Nikon D3000 earlier in this thread. From what I've read, the D3100 is a huge improvement. I personally went with a D90. Although it's not as new as the 3100, it's fully compatible with old and new Nikon lenses. For older lenses, you'll have to manual focus with the 3100... that's not always a bad thing though. And if you've got the scratch, the D7000 looks ridiculously good. That's what I dream of at night :)

In truth though, a D3100 with a fast prime lens like the 35mm f/1.8 will grab pictures as good as anything, even in low light, and it won't break the bank.

Hope that helps,

Noel

Here are the results of my second try at some time-lapse photography. Someone called the police on me while I was taking these shots, but after much deliberation the authorities were able to establish that I was, in fact, not a terrorist.

Cool shots.

I agree about the 3100. It's the best entry level Nikon on par with and debatably better than the D5000 (which has just been discontinued).

Another great entry level option is the Pentax K-x.

I always find urban decay to be a great subject. Looking at this wall you can't help but think about the office workers or tenants that went up and down these (since removed) stair cases.

It's interesting what remains when a building is razed for a parking lot. You can see bricked over windows and doors. Remnants of drywall. The ends of joists. The history of the block and the buildings is exposed for the observant eye to see. Man I need to get out and take some pictures.
