I noticed that photobucket shrinks my images a little bit when displayed in the forums so it's a bit blurrier (click on for slightly larger), and quality is also lost. But it's free so I can't complain :p

Photobucket is great for showng off your latest .gif of your kitty getting its head stuck in your beer mug but it stinks for trying to share real photos. Lately I've been using Flickr. Give it a try. They make it easy to choose which size you want to share. There is some compression but it looks much better than phototoilet and their large size is just about right for sharing on forums.

Z,

I believe I mentioned this either in this thread or in an effects forum thread (grygrx posted the question). The Sony Alphas are essentially Minolta Maxxums and I believe (not confirmed but highly likely) that old Maxxum AF lenses will fit the Sonys. You may loose some functionality but you can certainly look on the used market and find lenses that you can use.

I'm not worrying about that to much, my goal is to get the "best" at my price point, so far it looks like the Sony a33 is it.

Kind of sad that my dad's older Minolta's bayonet mount lenses won't fit on it tho (Srt 101).

As a newbie too, I'll share what I've found out . . .

In reality, any DSLR from the last few years will give you pretty damned good results, so if you were to buy a used one and some decent glasswear you could get amazing results for not much more (obviously depends on what make and how far you want to go on getting the lenses) than the cheaper/entry level options avalible.

I still don't have my DSLR yet, ordered it at the start of the month, I've sent off an email to cancel the order now because I'm peeved at getting the fluff of them not getting enough stock in. Hopefully get the money back early in the week and can fork out on one and hopefully have it by the weekend :)

I'm monitoring the used market to, hoping to find a 30d,40d,50d,200d,d80,d5000, etc at a good price but people are bidding like madmans on the 'bay and there's nothing at all locally.

I might go check the local photography biz and annoy them a bit since they seem to upgrade a lot :hiding:

Zil, I just checked your local craig's list and it is empty. Pawn shops are a good place to score on good gear (though...most likely stolen) or you can go to your local college that has a photography program. Instructors and students are always selling their gear on the bulletin boards outside the department.

I checked the pawn shop (yes we only have one) and the colleges here don't offer the photography program. We have kijiji but it's either empty or 300miles+ away. Same thing happens for bass and just about everything, I'm getting used to it.

Thanks, DigMe. :)

Zil, if you're looking to get a starter camera to learn all the basics and develope your skills and don't mind buying used gear, there's a ton in Vancouver pawn shops and on Craig's List. I don't mind shipping one over for ya. I had no idea things can be so scarce in NB.

Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi 400D - $380

Thanks for the offer, if nothing else works I'll let you know. :)

Also thanks DigMe, I'll check those later today.

I checked KEH, adorama, etc bu the shipping is a scam... There's no way I'm paying 60-70$ shipping for a small box like that, add customs and brokerage fee on top of that...nonsense.

Most of my shots are on a fairly basic Canon Powershot A80.

We're having some fairly odd weather here at the moment. Here's one I took over the weekend...

Whoa,...the cloud formation is crazy.

Here are some shots I took of our crazy weather lately.

These are from around the neighborhood.

I didn't have my tripod with me so they aren't as sharp as they could be. I was more interested in the surreal lighting during a snow storm.
