I want a Warwick so bad. I've wanted instruments before, but nothing as bad as a Warwick. I just don't have the money to drop on one!!! These are all beautiful instruments and i bet they sound just as beautiful!

I've tried warwicks many times but im afraid I just don't feel comfortable in them. IMO the neck is too thick. I am used to play jazz basses. Also, the string spacing is very small. I just can't slap well in any warwick. It is a pitty because I really like how they sound and how they look!!

It looks like a Spector copy :). Streamer LX6: flamed maple body/ovangkol neck/wenge fingerboard. the neck is very comfortable and fast, the bass sounds very clean, crisp highs, full deep and fat lows (the low B string kills) lots of mids BUT those mec soapbars (active split coils) are extremly hi-fi sounding (to my ears) so i've been thinkig about replacing them with Bartolini P46 dual coils or Nordstrand dual coils (both are the same shape/size with the mecs). Well, I think the nordies would work better in this bass but..:confused::help::help::confused:
also I'll replace the mec preamp with an aguilar obp3.

any thoughts and suggestions are wellcome and highly appreciated!

What do you think guys, should I get the barts or the nordstrands? what would be the best for this bass? maybe some other preamp too? or should I stick to the obp3?
opinions?

personally, I dig the OBP-3 with selectable mids at 400 and 800. Pickups I am torn. I have delanos on my thumb and they are too sweet. but I also have nordy DC5's on my fretless and really love the coil switch options.

My $.02,
OBP-3. nordy dc's (parallel version). vol, vol, bass/treb stack, mids. use 500K push pull pots for both volumes (single coil/ series bucker), push pull on the mids (400/800). I hardly use the parallel mode on my nordies.

Yeah, I've heard that MEC pups are pretty good (I never said they're bad!) so maybe the hi-fi zingy sound comes from the 2 band mec pre? I had a '96 four string Streamer LX (wenge neck and fboard, p/j mec pickups, mec 2band) and it sounded much warmer and natural, maybe because of the wenge thing, or..?
anyhow I'm sure it would sound much better with a SD pre.

IMO, a fair bit of the zingy sound comes from the bass's materials and construction. That gives the bass a dry edge to it (a.k.a. growl) which is a major feature in the Warwick sound, and especially in through-neck models like streamers. Trying to draw other sounds ie warm/fat/round but not clear/dry/bright from the bass is going to be problematic - you'll not be getting the best that the bass has to offer.

Well put David.
I think sometimes people tend to forget that what might not sound good on it's own,actually sounds great in a band context.
imo this hifi quality that is often seen as a disadvantage,is a big contributor to the clarity/definition that's heard when playing with other intsruments.

I didn't mention before but my old '90 stage one (or just streamer bass:)) had EMG pj pickups/mec 2 band eq and sounded warm/fat/round....and yes, it was neckthrough body...and growling like hell!;) soo?:D
And for my lx6, I like the clarity and brightness in the lower registers but not that much above the 12th fret, especially the g-c strings.

I have a student who plays a Fortress One (MEC J's and 2 band pre) and was thinking about your post as I checked it out this morning. The fortress is big/round/warm sounding (especially compared to my Infinity SN) and the MEC gear brings that character out.

I still feel that acoustic sound is a pretty good guide as to how most pickups will represent your bass line, but I'm getting more open minded as I age! Please keep us posted if you do change the pups out!

yeah, I know what are you talking about. i owned 8 'wicks, they're all gone except the lx6:bawl:,
one of them was a 1996 fortress one (all wenge neck, mec pj/2 band pre) man that bass was awesome!
