Hey guys, new Warwick owner here in Guatemala, Central America.

I'm so happy happy happy happy!!!!

I just bought this bass new from a local store last Friday, sept 25th. I've been playing a Washburn 6 string for 16 years and wanted something easier to play where I could feel more agile. Can you tell why all the excitement? Haven't bought a new bass since 1993!!

I checked all the basses I could find at all the local stores, including a Fender Geddy Lee and a few Ibanezes, but this one was an absolute winner. If I would have cheaped out and bought the best Ibanez I would have regretted all my life because I know this bass is superior.

To be honest I didn't know anything about the brand until about 2 months ago when I first played it. I did some research on the Internet and found out it was a quality instrument and how people would praise its "growl".

I'm so happy I can't stop playing it. I love the strings that come in it too. I thought my Washburn sounded good, but this one is so much fuller and I can play with the knobs and find so many different sounds I like, whereas the Washburn I only liked 1 setting and that was it.

Now that I bought it I kept researching and discovered this is only the tip of the iceberg regarding Warwick basses. There are so many high-end models. Now I want a 6 string Warwick!!!

Why do people complain about weight or thick neck? It's light and the neck is not thick. Especially if you're coming from the 6-string world.

Hey guys. I just got a Corvette Standard 5. What a nice bass. I'n new to Warwicks so I have some questions. I'm thinking of swapping pickups, what's a direct replacement for the MEC 5 jazz pickups? Whats good to use to clean the wenge fingerboard? And does anyone have a Bass User Kit and strap ends of the Warwick Security locks that they want to get rid of?? What string will give you nice high end and a thick bottom end that works well with the MECs??

as for the strap ends u can try the jim dunlop classic, it work for me. give it a spin.

Careful with the Dunlop Straplok system. I had these installed in my old bass and wanted to use the same strap and just unbuckle one bass and switch to the other, but the plunger that goes into the button that is fixed in you bass is not the same diameter. So a strap with Dunlop plungers will work in Warwick buttons, but not viceversa. This causes the pin to fit loose on the Warkick buttons.

I noticed this and didn't risk my new expensive bass, so I decided to use an old strap with the correct Warwick plungers instead of risking dropping my new bas.

In conclusion, buy a set of Dunlops and replace the buttons in your bass too.

Good point here to be remembered.

On my Thumb Bass I have the recessed "Dunlop" strap locks.
If you use Dunlop ones and not the Warwick one, they do in fact fit loosely, and WILL pull out. Especially the upper horn.

If you insert the Dunlop one into the button end, then grab it while turning back and forth while pulling up, it will pop out.
I've had it happen a few times on a number of Thumb Basses.

Seems only the Thumb that really presents an issue though. With the upper horn pointing more up than a normal horn.

Hey dude.
To clean your fingerboard just use some lemon oil,available from any music store for $5.
Ya really dont need the userkit.Just but youself some metric allen keys. one 1.5mm,one 2.5mm & a 5mm for adjusting the truss rod.These MUST be metric.Also a #1 philips head screwdriver for setting the intonation.

Strap locks can be bought from any Warwick dealer or you can change them for Schaller or Dunlops if you wish,but this will require changing the reciever pins on the bass.
Strings?That's just personal opinion.Try out some of the more popular brands like DR,Warwick,GHS,D'addario etc.
If you're after extremely long lasting stainless steel string Warwick EMP's are great value.They can last up to a year with daily playing.
Pickups,spend some time getting used to your bass before changing the pickups.MEC's a great pickups,designed in house at Warwick to bring out the best in your bass.Personally I find them very EMG like.But if you're intent on trying out some different pickups,there's loads of brilliant alternatives nowadays,like Nordstrand,Delano,Seymour Duncan etc.

+1 on the other bloke saying lemon oil, and I think generally have a scan through every pickup manufacturer you can fathom until you have found some sound clips that depict a tone you like. (there are countless threads in the Pickup bit that I've found useful when I was having a look into switching out my MEC 'buckers"

DR strings could be your friend, I've found they do give a very tight bottom end and crisp highs. Though I'm running some Thomastik-Infeld "Infeld Bass strings" which seem to sound spectacular on my Corvette, they do have some serious mids and I happily recommend them

I DID have some strap ends, but since moving to university I cannot find a bladdy thing. I'll have a hunt I'm guessing the official store has them at a ludacris price?

ime,no.To put it simply.
But it's best if you try one out personally.

do keep in mind, it's a completely different beast. much brighter and humbucky, not the same type of lows at all.

never quite understood the brand loyalty with Warwick, their models are all so vastly different, I would rather have a P-bass to, say, a Stryker tbh, but most fortresses and ash/maple 'vettes perk me right up. between tones, shapes, necks, there is easily a Wick for anyone. this means at the same time, there is a Wick for anyone to not like out there. as opposed to the 2 basic Fender sounds, the standard Gibson mud, the EMG whine Spectors have...

I of course don't denounce this at all! innovation should not be limited by a name! but I find a lot of people like to blindly follow a brand, and note that doing that with Warwick... not always the best move.
