Hi,
I just picked up a Thumb BO fretless 6. Its being shipped now. I wasn't able to try one (difficult to find anywhere) before buying but took the plunge because I love my fretless NT Thumb 5 so much. I got it (the bolt on 6) used and the ad said that the fingerboard is wenge. Its kinda hard to tell from the pics but I think it could be wenge, but on the warwick website it seems to suggest that the fretted basses are wenge while the fretless are "tiger stripe ebony". The used one I got was made in 1998. Does anyone know if they were using wenge fingerboards on BO fretless thumbs in 1998? Ultimately it doesn't matter (I like both ebony and wenge and have had both, although I have never had a wenge fingerboard on a fretless), but its going to take a solid week before the bass arrives and I'd really like to know. Thanks!

By the way check out my 1990 (picked it up in 1994) Thumb Fretless NT 5 and my FNA Jazzman 5. I don't have the FNA anymore (wish I did) but probably will never part with the Thumb NT fretless 5. I have owned this bass longer than any other for good reason!!!

Hey dude,congrats on your new baby.
Warwick have never used wenge on fretless basses because it's just not a good fretless material,it's too brittle & splinters easily.You're going to have to really look after your fingerboard to keep it from falling apart.You can do this by getting it epoxy coated,if it isnt already,use flatwounds &/or both.
The reason Warwick use tigerstripe ebony on all fretless basses is because it's extremely durable & can stand up to roundwound strin gs really well.
I have a feeling your Thumb has been de-fretted by a previous owner.I knew a guy that did this very mod on his Thumb BO6 & coated the fingerboard with superglue.I personally thought it was silly,as were most of his mods,& he parted ways with the poor bass soon after.

New bass! Warwick Corvette 5er with active electronics. Got it for $499 USD. Anyone know if the neck is ovangkol or wenge? The serial ends in 00 so it's a 2000. Were the wenge necks phased out by 2000?

Thanks guys, do you think it was a good deal for $499? I traded in my Ibanez 6 string because 6 is just too many for me; I was never using the high C string. I basically paid $230 out of pocket for this bass.
