been thinking abt it for a long time, my taranis is passive electronics, i was thinking of going active pre. any recommendations? and uses a hartke vxl as a toneshapper but recently i wanted to downsize my board so i can lug it around easier.

i am slanting towards Audere but other folks recommended aggie opb-3 or should i just get a smaller ff-board pre? like submarine?

It's a great bass, even compared to other Warwick's I've played; something about this particular bass just works well. Great Warwick 'growl' of course, but very versatile in terms of the range of tones you can pull from it - the soapbars really add something that the J's on a 'lesser' stringed bass just can't pull off. The higher registers really sing on this, and the lower end is really tight and powerful. It's a tad heavy, but nothing a good strap can't fix. Despite what people say about Wick's, the neck on this thing is NOT particularly thick, and is as wide as it needs to be; any thinner and you'd be going into Ibanez-Bass-For-Mr-Girly-Hands territory.

wow...i couldn't agree more.

I love the neck on this bass. It's pretty much perfect! I had played a corvette 5 before and it just wasn't the same as this beauty.

Absolutely... I've played a friends bubinga Corvette 5, expecting it to be just like my baby. But, it just felt 'cheaper', or something. And don't get me started on the swamp ash version... :scowl:

It's hard to describe - but I really think this model shines in the Corvette Std. line. It's perfect!

If you're looking to buy it, I wouldn't hesitate!

Hey man, nice bass, I've got the same one and am looking to de-fret it. What's this bass like in terms of jazz? All I'm wanting to do is play jazz and emulate the sound of a double bass. Also looking to get a double bass though. A friend of mine who is a very skilled bassist and a luthier said that he can't imagine a warwick sounding too hot when it comes to playing jazz. When I say jazz I mean bebop and hard bop, not jaco :) Any help would be greatly appreciated

I saw you have a fretless vette and also play double bass. Just wondering, how do they compare? I have a 97 Corvette Std Bubinga and want to de-fret it, or get a double bass, or both. How does it sound when it comes to playing jazz? I don't really mean a Jaco sound, but how do you think it would hold up in a bebop, hard bop group? In place of a double bass that is. Although nothing compares to a double bass for that tone, I'm hoping it could come close.

G'day Slim.
Dont let other's opinions fool you mate.I know personally,guy that play jazz with everything from the Thumb to the Infinity to the Corvette.Ya should try out as many different models as you can,& make up your own mind.
Now I'm not saying this to disrespect your luthier,but there's alotta people that are brilliant at building & setting up an instrument.But when it comes to playing them,or musical ability,they can tend to be less than ideal.
Good luck mate.If ya need extra help,from owners of some of these basses,you should drop by the Warwick forum.
