I think following the sound is great!!!!

but, I don't think you can pick up any old Warwick bass and just right off the bat have strong low mids. my Fortress is a bit more of a high mid bass, along with ash corvettes and such. the MEC's are really good at letting the wood itself sing, making a change like body wood significantly matter.

I always hear that low mid thing about them. I despise low mids myself. everyone and their mother uses those, and they dont get that high end kick, they just kinda blend with the kick drum.

do keep in mind, it's a completely different beast. much brighter and humbucky, not the same type of lows at all.

never quite understood the brand loyalty with Warwick, their models are all so vastly different, I would rather have a P-bass to, say, a Stryker tbh, but most fortresses and ash/maple 'vettes perk me right up. between tones, shapes, necks, there is easily a Wick for anyone. this means at the same time, there is a Wick for anyone to not like out there. as opposed to the 2 basic Fender sounds, the standard Gibson mud, the EMG whine Spectors have...

I of course don't denounce this at all! innovation should not be limited by a name! but I find a lot of people like to blindly follow a brand, and note that doing that with Warwick... not always the best move.

If I were to buy another bass, I certainly wouldn't want one that sounds almost the same as the previous one. I'd seriously consider another Warwick because I already know their high quality construction and their "sound of wood" compromise. I really don't like basses that rely all their sound in electronics. So if they have many different kinds of basses, they sure have a potential customer here.

My Warwick Fretless is basically a fretless jazz bass but the tone is so much more thick compared to a Fender Jazz. Maybe I would have bought a Fender if they made a fretless jazz with an ovangkol neck and bubinga body. I didn't buy it because it was a Warwick. I want the $$ because of the multitude of tonal options that it has. Two humbuckers with the option to split them into a variety of different options made me want the $$. The quality of my Corvette only reassures me that Warwick makes some very high quality instruments.

The necks don't feel like im holding a pencil either. Which is something I like. :ninja::hiding:

Don't get defensive but some people have said Warwicks have thick baseball bat necks! Sweet! Just what I am looking for. I actually prefer a deep front to back 5 string neck, as I have large old hands. I am not talkin nut width but thumb anchor to fingertip thick. The thicker the better. What's a 35" scale Warwick fattie 5 I might like in a moderate price range? Thanks!

the early 2000's Warwicks are not actually all that fat, some (mainly whiney babies with bad technique IMO [and a rare few genuine people who grip right at the middle on every bass, and like the feel of the angle on their thumb]) don't like that it gives you more surface to put your thumb on and less to wrap your hands around, making a gentle squeeze easier to use- you aren't pushing against a circle, it's a more oval shape, you don't have to compensate against slipping off of the side.

wish my fortress had a fatter neck, it's otherwise about right so I can deal. fatter than my Ibanez though, which is good.

a fatter warwick may still be good for you if you want a bass that keeps you from cramping up, you get a lot more leeway with finger placement with that instrument (within the bounds of good technique). always a good deal.

however Warwick right now has reverted to the industry standard C-shape, so guitards can play (and buy) their instruments too. my fortress has a similar set up, it feels like a P-bass kinda. good move as far as getting more sales goes, but not a killer move as far as my own playing.

if someone wants to challenge me on this, I invite you to do so in a friendly manner. I'm pretty sure I'm right, however.

I always keep my thumb center in back unless I am seeking relief from a skinny neck and do a guitar player front hang over! I remember reading or watching something about Jamerson that said he was always solidly anchored in the middle of the back. I thought I must be doin somethin right even though I don't have his chops! So which Warwicks currently produced are chunky or have they gonr mainstream P bass? 5vers please.

anything from 00-08 should be ok, maybe a a few 99 and 09's too. if you get a sixer, you will certainly have some extra room for those fingers. everything is now made p-bass, but, any broadneck or custom ordered fat necks will do- or you can scope the craigslist or ebay for exactly what you're looking for, a used 5er from the the last 10 or so years.

Nvm, found it at the auction site. It says E-075088-00. When you check that serialnr at the warwick site, it says it's a Thumb BO.

In other words, it's a rockbass streamer with a Warwick neck. Invalid Link Removed. Scroll down the site and type in the serialnr. Says this:

Thumb BO, 5-string
Natural Oil finish
Ovangkol body
Ovangkol neck
Black hardware

The ebay seller typed wrong! as you can see on the back of the headstock, it says E 075083 00.
The warwick dater says "2000 Streamer Standard Honey Violin finish Carolena Body....."
