Many of you have seen my '98 Thumb BO here on TB. I was very close to trading/selling her off but I decided to change the pickups/preamp and give her another shot as my main 4 string. After playing her for 6 months straight day after day at the navy school of music, I have come to the conclusion that the only way you can have my wick is after you pry it from my cold dead hands! To all the naysayers, you don't know what you are missing! Who has two thumbs and no fenders........ this guy

My Corvette ProLine 5 is from 99 (serial D-061978-99) and has a wenge neck...
Now, I know this model wasn't available in the US by then, was it?

All this Wick porn was driving me CRAZY. Couldn't take it anymore, so I jumped out there and bought a used 98 Thumb B05 with a wenge neck and FB. Should have it in a week or so and will post pictures and demand a club # then. A couple of questions:
Is the 98 wenge neck the thinner profile?
Is there any concensus on which rounds work best with this bass if you really want to bring out the growl.
Likewise, which flats work best with this bass if you want that deep thump?

My '98 thumb NT 4 has the old, thinner neck profile...not sure about profile of the BO5s. I believe they had the broadneck option for the 5ers back then, also.

Can't comment on the strings as I haven't used but a couple of brands - Warwick and DR rounds. Liked them both for growl, but I think any rounds would growl on this bass.

My 2002 Thumb has the "U" shaped neck. I purchased it with an open mind about the "baseball bat" neck comments. After a few days I noticed that my old thumb cramping was gone! I really luv the "U" shaped neck. Also, check here for more details.
